We’re told that vacations are okay and not just okay but healthy! Duh right? Vacations keep you sane because working too much will make you crazy, we all know that. Other than some much needed R&R and being over worked, we’ll actually take any excuse in the book for a getaway and that’s okay too.
What they don’t say is that’s it’s okay to go a lil crazy. Hell, I say go a lot crazy! We work to grind and grind to make life happen, and the in-between moments are full of running errands, finding time for your family and friends, and catching all the lemons that life throws at you ALL while mid lunge and it’s a TASK . But we do it with grace, and a side of vodka of course.
Today I thought I’d share with you my personal ‘me time’ things, because it’s also really healthy to take a time out for yourself and to not feel guilty about it. That’s the kicker. As a mom I feel like sometimes I’m being selfish demanding my alone time and even wanting that at all, but you know what- we’re human and being comfortable being alone is a healthy thing. For you, for your family, and for your mental health. You don’t even need to leave the house necessarily . . . though running out to grab a cup of coffee by myself is one of my favorite things to do.
- Write it out- going back to our journaling and Dear Diary days, it’s so therapeutic to just get your thoughts, stresses, and emotions out onto paper. Out into the world and out of your head, clear headspace makes for a happy mind space.
- Dance it out- music speaks to my soul I swear and sometimes it’s telling it to take a chill pill and not try to control everything in life. Whether it’s putting on my favorite record, or popping my ear buds in and going for a long walk, there’s something music does for me that silence just doesn’t seem to fill.
- Pampering time!- I’m all about that ‘me time’ pampering time! I love doing skin care masks, ya know, the ones that make you look crazy! I love taking baths with a glass of wine, some bubbles, some tunes, and some relaxing bath bombs.
I’m telling you, even if it’s going for a drive, going to the movies by yourself, reading a book in a corner, or turning off your phone for a few hours to nap REM cycle style . . . YOU time is definitely important! Look at it like an appointment you’ve set up for yourself and don’t skip it or reschedule. Your mental health is just as vital as breathing, so do it <333
What is the ONE thing you do for yourself to take a time out and reset?
