OOTD – Movin’ and groovin’!

I may have a slight love obsession with leggings. I mean I have them in every color imaginable, exhibit A below. So today I met with my dream team over at Game Show Network and we have a new show concept coming up and I’m so excited about it. Pretty much hosting is all I want to do right now so it’s all I’ve been doing. I like using words and energy and tossing them at an audience. Also this is what I wore today, here’s today OOTD- style watch – dressing up leggings so that you can perform normal every day functions without looking like you just came from the gym 😉

It’s all about dressing cute but more importantly, comfortable for me. Unless I’m on a stage or hosting a show, you won’t find me in dresses and pumps. I like to dress up when I got out, but my daily grind look is just like this. Flats, leggings, a tank, an accessory, and a jacket or kimono.

The flats are from Tieks link here, the pants are from JustFab here, and the necklace is from Twisted Faith Jewlery here. I love color blocking with my Tieks, I could very well be crazy, but I’m pretty sure red goes with everything! I also am obsessed with royal blue and these JF leggings hug like a glove and I feel like with an accessory and a jacket, that it’s really day wear and not just sports wear.

The tank is from Target here, and the jacket is from Forever 21 here, yes forever 21, that is where I’m at, not a day older…..ever. I’ve actually never worn my Twisted Faith necklace with anything other than a dressy look, so it was nice to get to wear it with a more casual look.

I love that it has that antique-y feel yet it’s simplistic, I can wear it with this tank and not feel like it’s too much. I love the cuts in the stone, ( I love wearing stones period) but I also love the length. It sits just where my 3rd and 4th button would be if I had buttons on this tank. And the jacket, well I wear a jacket 24/7 even if it’s warm out, so this distressed black denim jacket was nice to layer on top of it all.

I have a video coming out this week of my hair and makeup look that I did here, so be on the look out for that. I’ve been inspired by fashion lately….and music. And macaroons. Odd combination I know, but that’s what’s happening with me. Do you like cute/comfy, or are you a dressy/formal kind of person?

Have a wonderful day and happy Mother’s Day to all your mommas out there!

Getting my fix!

Hi! I know it’s been a bit since I’ve written a post on here, so much is going on, so lets catch up! If you watch me on YouTube than you know I’m vlogging daily on my channel now. Click here to check those out, it’s ‘vlog a day in May’, which means I pick up my camera every day and video blog my life. I’m used to doing comedy, writing sketches, being impersonal about things so this is very different for me, but I like it! Also I started a blog with my daughter Corrine, click here for it, it’s called spoiledpeaches.com and she and I take turns over there writing posts. It’s a way for she and I to stay connected while she is away at college so I’m starting now! So today I’ll share with you my style watch for the week, it’s a few pieces I received from Stitch Fix.

So Stitch Fix is a monthly service that I subscribe to, where a personal stylist sends me a box of clothes that fit my style profile, my sense of style, and that are on trend. Now if I’m not being styled by someone on set, or my daughter doesn’t help dress me, I do not know fashion. I would live in uggs and sweats if it weren’t for monthly little packages being sent to me, dressing me up.

The dress above is one of the 3 pieces I kept from the box and I sent the rest back. It’s convenient for me since they include a return bag and label, just to pop in what I don’t want to keep and send back. The clothes come once a month and I can choose to keep and pay for the pieces I want, or send it all back. The monthly fee I pay for that service is $20, but I usually make that back in purchases as the stylist that I have knows my style pretty well I think.

Here are some of the other items that came in this months shipment. They send 5 things at a time, 4 pieces of clothing, usually 2 tops, a dress or skirt, a pair of jeans or slacks, and an accessory of some kind.

So I ended up just keeping the skinny jeans, the dress I’m wearing, and the arrow cuff bracelet. The two tops were not really my style, a lil too loose fitting and plain for something I would host in, yet too dressy for my normal casual lifestyle. So I sent the two blouses back and the things I kept they automatically charged me for upon receipt of my return. Pretty awesome service!

What I like most is that I don’t have to think about what’s on trend, what’s up and coming, I set it all in my style profile, I switch it up sometimes from business casual, as seen above, to dressy, or sometimes I go super boho and only request flowy skirts and off the shoulder tops. Check out the service if you need a lil help like me, let me know what you think! And if you’re already a member, let me know what was in your fix this month!

See you here later next week and over on our spoiledpeaches.com blog.

Stay awesome!

An Apology

A few things have happened very recently that makes me want to talk about apologies. I had a very inspiring conversation with Elissa Kravetz of The Farley Project, she is so inspirational and uplifting, and my amazing friend Miya was there with me. If you know Miya, you know she is one of the most positive and genuine people you’ll ever meet. We all talked about bullying today, about emotions, and about apologies.

There is so much power in the words, “I’m sorry”, yet it’s so hard for people to say them. I’ve always taught my daughter to apologize freely. Not because she is right or wrong, not to admit defeat, not to place or accept blame, but to say, “Hey, I hurt you, I’m sorry”. Whether you meant what you said or did, or whether you didn’t, saying you’re sorry shouldn’t be about pride, it shouldn’t be about ego, it’s about human compassion. But for most people it’s not, and because of that, many people avoid apologies because in all reality they’re really just avoiding the shame they feel when they say it.

It’s not shameful to say sorry, it’s powerful. It’s forgiveness, it’s closure. Talking about something once the apology is said is one thing but please never continue an apology with the word, “but”. There’s no but, just a period. Something we also discussed today is how children are taught to apologize because they did something wrong, that they’re wrong….they called a boy a name, or they threw a rock at a girl, so they say they’re sorry but now they attach the statement with a negative stigma. It makes them feel badly about themselves and they don’t know why because it’s never explained to them why they are apologizing, so now the shame comes along and mix that with human pride, and bam, no one apologizes anymore. Well not all, but most.

I have a 16 year old daughter that I am teaching to navigate through life and how to own her life, how to own her decisions, and how to be a good person. That all starts with sense of self, with being secure in who you are, and with having integrity. Not an easy thing to do let me tell ya, and I should practice what I preach sometimes, but that’s life and we live and we learn. Live and let live I say, and say you’re sorry and let things go. Let people go if you have to, I’ve had to and let me tell ya, it’s difficult and it hurts, but sometimes toxic things in your life influence you to make toxic decisions, and that sucks.

I’ll step off my soap box now but I think the only way to grow in life is to learn. Knowledge is power and so are your words. Your words carry weight and like a toothpaste once they’re out, there’s no putting them back. I am thankful for the conversation I had with these two incredible ladies today because it reminded me to practice gratitude and kindness.

I love you and thank you for letting me rant 😀

OOTD – Mini Skirts and Crop Tops!

As much as I love lounging around in tees and leggings, and sporting my favorite casual chic styles, I really love to get all dressed up for a night out! In this case it was for a luncheon and then dinner party later that afternoon. So bring on the mini skirts and high heels I say!

So for this occasion I wore my Scuba Peplum Mini Skirt with a The Muheeka long sleeved crop top, and my Steve Madden Deeny pumps. Talk about wowza, I felt like I was 6 feet tall (I’m really only 4’11 😉 and  I love stacking my rings these days so I have on a couple of PeachMeLA rings and their stacked gold necklace and out the door I went!

I threw on my leather jacket in the evening, I’ll post photos of that also, but something like this, dressed up, kind of rocker vibe, I felt like a lil bad ass 😉 Thanks to StyleClubLA for personalizing my look, love those girls! Shop the look by clicking on the description of the look listed above and be sure to follow me on StyleClub! I’m designing a collection with them and I’ll need your help! Cozy Casual and Kimono Crazed Inspired Outfits!

Here’s my style watch for the weekend, I’m back with my Cotton Supply Co. tees and today I’m showing you how I take two of my favorite tees, same from yesterday’s post, and pair them up with different patterns.

First up, I took my ‘Bel Air Vintage Black’ tee and paired it with some black and white polka dot skinny jeans. Underneath the tee I wore a black lace bandeau and I loved how the red Tieks gave the look a pop of color. Color blocking in this way is fun for me since I don’t venture out in bold colors very often! For accessories I kept it pretty simple since I was just taking my lil one out for a mommy/ daughter date, and wore a red African beaded necklace, grabbed my black tote, and of course went with my favorite pair of Aviator sunnies.

And for the last look with my tee, I went with a super cute and trendy kimono look. I am OBSESSED with this kimono. Obsessed y’all! So I wore my ‘OC White’ tee with some basic black leggings, and brought back my favorite JustFab pumps, because well, they’re everything! This floral print kimono I dress up sometimes with a black dress and sparkly jewels or I dress down like I did in this picture for a lunch meeting I went to with this beauty, Miya! For accessories I wore a silver vintage necklace, some plain silver stacked bangles, my grey tote from JustFab, and completed it all with my aviator sun glasses! Tadaaaa!

So those are the 4 different ways I wear my favorite tees! You can click any of the highlighted text to shop the look, the Cotton Supply Co was kind enough to give everyone 20% off with the code Jess20 at checkout! I enjoy these style posts, so I hope you do also. Please tag me on Instagram and Twitter with your favorite way to wear a tee and I’m choosing a bunch of you to win a tee of my favorite style!

Love you all so much, and rock on ya sexy beast!

The Types Of Couples In Couples Therapy!

So besides reading my rambles here on my blog, you can also see me live on YouTube, where I have 3 channels! Yes three! haha. I do sketch comedy amongst other things, and the sketch featured below in particular, I’m super proud of! The Types Of Couples In Couples Therapy!

I wrote it, produced it, starred in it, edited it, the whole nine! As YouTubers we wear all the hats when it comes to our productions so when we complete them, they are our mini masterpieces and I say that about this one because it’s the first big production I had to put together myself.

It’s all about the types of couples in couples therapy. Of course this is a spoof so there’s the arguers- they yell. A lot! They’ve been together forever, they don’t listen to one another any more, but they’re still very passionate….even about fighting!

There’s the honey mooners- they are honey mooning of course, still new in their relationship, still fresh in their love and admiration for one another, they don’t actually have problems but they want to keep it that way.

And lastly we have the relationship hypochondriacs, who have been together for a while but think they have issues when they really do love one another they just can’t seem to stop nagging at each other.

I took these characters and amplified their dialogue to a ridiculous level and made a sketch of it 😀 Enjoy my shenanigans!

Thanks for all of your support, I love the love!

Tex Mex Curry Quinoa With An Asian Chicken Stir Fry Recipe!

Welcome to day 5 of my ‘6 courses in 6 days’ recipe plan for you! Today we have a Tex Mex inspired curry quinoa with an Asian inpired chicken stir fry combo! The quinoa is vegetarian and gluten free friendly, yayy for my child, and the chicken is spicy but not too spicy, packed with flavor, and a great compliment to the curried quinoa! I’m taking you to Texas and then Asia today! Let’s goooo!

So what was so wonderful about this dish is that you can literally toss the quinoa into anything! It makes an amazing stuffed peppers recipe, it’s great with eggs in the morning, over top some veggies, you can use it for all sorts of dishes and it’s gluten free and vegetarian for those of you who are GF or Veg! So my daughter was very happy with this quinoa dish and my boyfriend was very happy with this chicken stir fry!

So for the quinoa you’ll need:

– 1/2 Tablespoon coconut oil
– 2 cups cooked quinoa
– 1 bay leaf
– 1/2 red onion finely chopped
– 1 clove crushed garlic
– 1 teaspoon 21 salute seasoning
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon tumeric
– 1/4 cup chopped basil
– 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
– sea salt
– fresh cracked black pepper
– 1/2 cup coconut milk full fat
– 1 can of corn
– 1 can of black beans

Saute the onion and garlic in the coconut oil, then add in the quinoa and the required amount of water. Add in the bay leaf, spices, and basil with cilantro, and cook until done. Drain the can of corn and black beans and drop them into the pot when the quinoa is done and just let that cook over low heat until the entire mixture is warmed. Serve with some fresh cilantro on top and ENJOY!

For the Asian chicken stir fry

– 2 rinsed and cleaned skinless chicken breast cubed
– 1/2 diced yellow onion
– 2 Tablespoons liquid aminos (or soy sauce)
-1/4 cup diced yellow and red bell peppers
– 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
-1/4 cup diced fresh mint
– 2 Tablespoons olive oil
– 1 clove crushed fresh garlic
– 1/2 Teaspoon Himilayan sea salt (you won’t need much since the soy sauce adds salt
– fresh cracked black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
– 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Saute the onion, garlic, and bell peppers in olive oil, toss in the chicken, spices, mint, and pepper flakes. Once the chicken is half way cooked, add in the soy sauce and cook until done. Top the dish off with fresh cut cilantro and over the bed of quinoa and you’re day is done! Nomnomnomers!

This entree is so yummy when you put the chicken over the quinoa, but each dish on their own is equally delicious! You could put the chicken over a bed of rice, wrap it up in a tortilla, or go carb free and wrap it in a piece of romaine lettuce. The quinoa like I said can be put over top so many side dishes to make a complete meal, so try these out, get creative, and be sure to tag me on Instagram and Twitter so I can see your creations! 😀

A delicious day to you, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

Stye Watch – Urban Casual Meets Casual Chic!

It’s style watch time! So besides sharing the recipes I love, listing my favorite things to do, and my lifestyle tips,  I will also bring you my favorite fashion trends! This is some of my personal style and my spin on some of the current trends.

If you know me personally than you know that I love comfort! You’ll find me in heels when I host and at events, but when I’m lounging around or running errands around town, it’s all about that cute and comfortable kind of style!

I recently teamed up with the Cotton Supply Co. who I love for their feminine cuts yet comfortable in fit. Here are some ways that I dress up and dress down my tees! Click here to shop the look!

Above is their ‘City Of Angels’ tank in black, and I took it and added my own urban flare to it by wearing it over leggins and paired with grey wedged sneakers. Under the tee I have on a lacey blue bandeau and over top, a printed vest. I fell inlove with this aztec gold necklace from Urban Outfitters so I put that on and grabbed my grey tote and off I went for a tea time date! The perfect pair of sunnies and some gold bangles finished off the look, and I felt cute and trendy, but most of all, comfortable!

For my birthday I went with casual chic. I just love taking tee shirts and sassing them up with some accessories and a sexy pair of pumps! It takes the look from casual to chic with just some simple additions of accessories, and a minor tuck of the tee!

In this look I took the ‘Malibu White’ tee and tied it up on the side (remember the 80’s style side knots?! Yes those! I did that to this tee and it rocked!), and paired it with an asymmetrical black skirt which took the look  from casual to chic as you see above.

My JustFab pumps sexy-fied the outfit, and I figured that with the skirt and the side zipper jacket, it would dress the outfit up enough to go out for my birthday dinner, and it was! For my accessories I kept it pretty simple, a silver antique necklace for a lil sparkle on my neck, some silver stacked bangles, and my black sunnies!

Since my outfit was pretty dressed up, I tied my hair up in a top knot, kept my makeup to a smokey eye and a nude lip, and off we went to explore San Diego’s Gaslamp District! So fun! Click here to shop the look!

I think you can take any casual piece of clothing and dress it up, dress it down, take it to chic, or even give it an urban feel just by accessorizing it with some mood inspired pieces. Shoes can make any outfit say what you want it to say, and adding a simple jacket or vest can elevate your outfit as well!

Keep that in mind if ever you need some fashion inspiration, and if you like some of the pieces I have above, you can get 20% off with jess20 at checkout! Thanks to the Cotton Supply Co for sharing the love with my audience! Check them out and tag me on Instagram and Twitter so I can see how you style the tees!

I have some more style watch posts coming from you soon so stay tuned! 😀

Keep stylin you sexy thang!

A Mediterranean inspired Coponata dish recipe!

For those of you out there on a cleanse, or if you’re gluten free, or vegan, this one’s for YOU! So the night Fr. Leo came over to cook up a storm, one of our friends was on a cleanse (I know right, I felt so bad that all this carb dense food was staring at him!) and my daughter is a gluten free vegetarian, soooo we had to make something that wasn’t all carbs and meat haha! This dish was refreshing to our palettes and diet friendly to our friends. Win win baby! So lets get cookin shall we!

So this egg plant dish is creamy in texture, but not creamy in an ‘I hate textures and can’t eat that’ kind of way. It’s mineral-ly and smokey, and light enough that I could literally eat this every day.

We had this in between courses while our food settled, and it was light enough to refresh us, yet satiating enough to keep us from going back for seconds on the other dishes.

What you’ll need for this Coponata:

– 1 eggplant
– 1 clove crushed garlic
– 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
– 1 teaspoon sea salt
– 1 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
– 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
– half of one finely diced red onion

So cut the tips off of the ends of the egg plant and slice the eggplant in half, horizontally. Then cube and cook them on very HIGH heat in 2 tablespoons of heated olive oil. Cooking this on high heat will allow the eggplant to blister which we want. You may drizzle the eggplant with extra olive oil if it’s not frying enough, perhaps you didn’t add enough at the beginning (this is what we experienced). You don’t want the eggplant to dry out so if using more olive oil is necessary, go for it.

Then add in the fresh garlic and onion, crack some fresh pepper over top and add in the salt, and give it a toss. Drizzle the red wine vinegar over top once the onions are softened, this will de glaze the pan, and then add in some freshly cut parsley to top it all off before serving. ENJOY! Nom nom nommyyy!

This is really really yummy for an appetizer too, light enough for it, and gets you ready for the other 5 courses! Please visit Grace Before Meals for more yummy recipes, and thanks again to Fr. Leo!
Hope you enjoy this dish, I know we did! Be sure to tag me on Instagram and Twitter when you make it, I love seeing your spin on recipes!

hugs all around,

Jess
