Helping With Hyundai

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, β€˜What are you doing for others?’” – MLK

Ever since Corrine was little I’d try and do things with her that would teach her to be empathetic. I think one of the greatest things we can do for one another as humans (and to teach our children) is to practice empathy and selflessness. So whether it was donating some of her gifts to children less fortunate than her, serving meals at Thanksgiving, and mentoring children at The Mission together in downtown L.A., it was a way for us to give back to our community and practice gratitude even when we were struggling ourselves and graciousness didn’t come so easily.

I was a single mom, a teen mom… and I remember that even the smallest gestures of kindness made such a huge impact on my life. I worked two jobs when Corrine was little and on the weekends to make ends meet, I’d pull overtime where I’d bring her to work with me and I’d set her up in a sleeping bag near the foot of my desk. She’d watch SpongeBob (the ONE episode she had) on repeat while I’d work from 5am-noon. My manager Karen at the time was so wonderful to let me do that because over time was a privilege and she allowed me to do this for months.

Girlfriends of mine would bring extra lunch to work and share it with me, for Christmas my friends would give me gas gift cards and donate wrapping paper for me to wrap presents with… just a few of the sweetest things that would mean nothing to someone else meant everything to me. So I really try and teach my daughter to give back when and where she can because if we’re in the position to help someone, why wouldn’t we? They say it takes a village to raise a child, well it also takes a village to help keep your head up when you’re down and out. 2020 was a perfect reference point for that and we all came together to help one another. I’d love to keep that theme going.

You’ve seen on my Instagram how proud we are to be a part of the Los Angeles Hyundai fleet. My Kona boo and I bop around town, choosing a different organization to highlight and help each month. For December we partnered with Hyundai to provide infant and toddler essentials to the families in need at the Good Shepherd Shelter (to help end domestic violence and rebuild lives) and donate to the CHLA. For January I picked up your donations from all around the Los Angeles area to donate to the Good Shepherd Shelter (new and unused items) and to the Mission (used items and goods) and I just wanted say thank you for being a part of this with me.

You’ve helped to restore hope for individuals and families, provided essentials that we wouldn’t think twice about not having, and purged your closets for donations … I’m so honored to be a part of this community. Please join me in continuing on with this mission, for the month of February I’d love to pick up where we left off in November with the food drive. There are a lot of non-profit organizations around L.A. as I’m sure there are in your communities, so if you’re local email me or DM me! Let’s try and feed 100+ families together this month <3

Food, water, shelter, and safety … these are the things I believe to be a human right and the fact that so many go without in the world of abundance that we live in is just incomprehensible to me. So I’d love it if you’d help me by A) donating canned goods and non perishable food items for me to pick up B) list some of your favorite organizations that we can all help and highlight in the coming months and C) tell me what you’re doing in your local community that we can support you with.

Helping with Hyundai means helping in our communities, activating our neighborhoods to reach out and give back where we can. I appreciate you, I love that we’ve been doing this together, and I hope I get to see your smiling faces (through masks… smile with those eyes haha!) very soon as we make our way around town this month.

Was philanthropy something you learned as a child or something you got involved with more as an adult?

TECHNOLOGY AND STORY TELLING

I launched my brand back in 2009 and have developed an affinity of sharing my message through story telling. For me, it includes a side of comedy, always.

Being a creative in new media today means being able to do it all. To wear all the hats. Technology has been an especially vital tool in growing and conducting my business .. after all, it is entirely based online. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to engage with you all, across the globe, like we are now, time and space not stopping us! *says this while holding radio above head outside your window*

Celebrating technology and humanity came together this weekend when I was invited out to the Santa Monica Pier for the AT&T and TOMS #CelebrateGood event. To commemorate a decade of partnership between the two companies, I got to step inside a huge shoebox, and this is what they shared with us.

AT&T has helped TOMS grow their business since they began, 10 years ago, by powering their network and spreading their mission of one for one giving. Now, AT&T is giving fans a virtual reality experience that takes you on, “A Walk In Their Shoes.” I got to enjoy this incredible advance in technology that transported me to Colombia on an actual giving trip!

It’s pretty unbelievable how real it felt to be there along the giving trip. Being able to see the activities the kids were doing, and to look up, down, and around at everything they were seeing was unreal! I’m glad I was sitting down!

P7730271
I was immersed in experiences, after stepping aside from the VR station, I learned about the AT&T and TOMS partnership through this interactive 10 year timeline. Talk about being in awe of technology, I was using my feet to scroll through the years!

P7730301

Above is Blake Mycoskie, the Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of the company, who was on site walking around each station explaining the impact technology has had in sharing his company’s mission with the world.

I’m so happy to have shared this moment with you all, activating a shoe give, and being a part of this momentous occasion where technology and philanthropy came together. Fun fact, when you purchase a pair of TOMS, an additional pair is given to a child in need and the type of shoe gifted to them is dependent on where in the country they live!

I hope this inspires you to inspire and to view the 360 video and more, just click HERE for your VR tour!

If you could use your voice to spread a message, what would you say? We’re listening <33

MEAL PREP MONDAYS – PAY FIT FORWARD!!!

Burpees. Mountain climbers. Jump Squats … forget calorie counting! How about you tell me how many repetitions of these exerciesΒ I’d have to do if I had that ice cream cone, and I’ll decide if it’s worth it or not! Ha! This is me welcoming you to #30DaysWithJess 2.0!

My Hapa sister Nikki is holding me accountable for the next 8 weeks as we embark on a fitness journey together! We’re on a full blown lifestyle plan that consists of 30 minute workouts, meal prepping, and acronymsΒ like HIIT and LISS!Β So todayΒ I’m sharingΒ with you how I’ve been staying on track by meal prepping and how my new partner My Fit Foods has made that so easy. You can join too with theirΒ #PayFitForward initiative!

this Monday's meal prep MVPs
this Monday’s meal prep MVPs

This week with Joe coming back from Maryland, my schedule taking on two new projects, and Corrine starting a drivers ed program, I was pressed for time to cook and plan! So I prepared a few lunches and dinners here at home, and then I supplemented the other meals for the week with ready-to-go meals from my local My Fit Foods store. The beauty of ready-to-go meals like this is that it takes the guess work out of it for me. I don’t have to think about ingredients, measuring, or macros. I just pack and go- 6 meals a day, that’s a lot of meals.

Think of it this way, our metabolisms are like a beautiful camp fire, and you have to keep feeding the fire with slow burning wood so that it is fueled throughout the day. This is my attempt at giving you a fitting analogy. The fire is your metabolism and the slow burning wood is good, clean, whole foods.

On the go I'm packing MFF breakfast, a smoothie, and grab-and-go snacks
On the go I’m packing a MFF breakfast, a protein smoothie, and grab-and-go snacks

So about every 2 1/2- 3 hours you should be fueling your body with a serving from each of the food groups, and contrary to the no-carb fad I’ve seen, I am a HUGE fan of carbs! It’s our energy and our brain’s fuel! As you see in this week’s preparation photo, along side our MFF meals there is quinoa, sweet potatoes, and fruit. With each of my meals I try to also include a protein, a carb, a healthy fat, and some vegetables. MFF meals already incorporate the ingredients I prepare for myself, soΒ it’s a no brainer to convenientlyΒ add them into our plan!

Corrine and I enjoying lunch at our local MFF

Preparing meals in advance can be a bit daunting, even if you’re only cooking for 3 days at a time like I do. So it makes my life a whole lot easier that My Fit Foods prepares each of their meals with a variety of options for each, even for Corrine! As the mother of a Vegetarian child, it can be difficult to find places that accommodate her, so it’sΒ really nice to have a selection for her to choose from also!

Since our breakfasts were prepped with snack grabs, protein smoothies, andΒ MFF veggie omelets, Corrine and I enjoyed our lunch at our MFF store while we stocked up on meals for the rest of the week.Β I knew we’d be on the road for the majority of the week, so I got 3 dinners for each of us, some more GF oat bars (also available at MFF woot!) for Corrine, and some peanut butter packets.

Plated up our MFF dinner and even lit some candles!
Plated up our MFF dinner and even lit some candles!

Dinner time is my favorite time of the day because it’s the one time we’re all at home and can sit down to enjoy a meal together.Β I plated up our MFF dinners and even added in some baby carrots and a side salad. I had the almond crusted chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, while Corrine and Joe savored the shrimp tacos with guacamole. To enjoy some more crunch I tossed in some additional sliced almonds, and I completely recommend you do this andΒ addΒ your favorite ingredients with your next meal!

When we went into our local My Fit Foods store on Friday we were happy to learn that the meals we purchased were a part of theΒ #PayFitForward initiative! Get excited because you too can try our their new dishes AND give back!Β

Every Friday during the month of SeptemberΒ when you purchase a meal from your local My Fit Foods, you’ll get a FREEΒ meal to donate to a participating food bank, or to give to a friend! We volunteer with Earth Angels who participate in Meals On Wheels so we are beyond happy to #PayFitForwardΒ each week and spread the love! It’s not only promoting health and wellness, but giving back, and community.

It really does help to involve your family with your health and fitness goals so that you can all do it together. It also really really helps when a friend holds you accountable and checks in with you each week! So grab a friend and create aΒ buddy system! Plus, you can treat them to a healthy meal with the MFF initiativeΒ as a thank you for keeping you on track! Win, win!

I hope you join us in #30DaysWithJess 2.0, you still have 3 weeks and if you get stuck on the whole meal planning thing, head on over to your local MFF store and stock up! It’s all about getting your body moving, choosing healthier meal options, and having fun while doing it!

Have a be-you-tiful week!

What My Brand Says About Me

As online personalities, we are often asked to define what our brands represent and to describe what we do in a singular sentence. In a singular sentence, I’m a lot of things. I’m an adrenaline junkie, a foodie, a mom, a puppy lover – a lot of things. I can best describe my brand as I describe what it is that I hope to give people in the community of β€˜Team Jess’, to – Inspire. Encourage. Empower.

I find inspiration in the places I visit, encouragement in my friends, and empowerment in the stories I write. It’s really refreshing when I can go places and cover stories, when I can team up with brands, and when I can get an insider look at all the things that really interest me, to then write about and share with all of you. I’ve been sharing a lot this week on the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am event that was held last week in Pebble Beach and the Foursome who shared their Fan’s Eye View of the tournament this year.

As I introduced the Foursome to you last week, I told you how I relate to each of them; being that I’m a mother of a 17 year old, an Army brat who’s moved every 3 years, and someone who also quit corporate America to pursue the dream of being creative full time. Learning about each of their stories individually helped me understand what about golf each of them loved so much. Last week I got to chat with them and these are their responses that really stuck with me.

I asked Dan what the one thing was that he’ll take away with him from this experience. He told me that the opportunity better helped him understand where he needs to be in order to reach his goal saying, β€œI can see that picture and I can imagine it and then I can go home and visualize it …. I know now what I need to do and where I need to be … turn the small goals into the big goal”. Β As a visualizer myself, I was silently β€˜wahoo-ing’ everything he was saying while taking notes.

I’d asked Tiffany the same question and if she had any advice for someone like me, who was interested in the sport but perhaps a bit intimidated by it, and for someone wanting to give up. She said, β€œIt’s kind of like life, every day is not a great day. It’s not. And you just move on…. like anything else it takes patience, focus, commitment, you’ll be rewarded for those 3 things”. Again I was silently standing up giving her a slow clap because it couldn’t have been said any better. Patience. Focus. Commitment. Check! Check! Check!

Katie, the youngest in the group, was so poised and well spoken that you knew by talking with her that she held her own on the golf course and in life. She was also motivated by this special fan’s eye view of the event, having answered my question about what her new goals for the year were, saying, β€œMy goal is to become a professional … this experience has motivated me go out there, give it my best and practice, and work my hardest to get to where I need to be in the future”. She’s a smart young lady and I’m so excited to see where the next 5 years takes her.

Before I let the Foursome get back to their activities, I spoke to Tim whose story really hit home for me since my dad was in the military for 23 years and I knew exactly where he was coming from. I asked Tim what about golf made the rehabilitation process for him something to look forward to, what about it changed him. He responded, β€œI’m the type of guy that if I do something I’m gonna do it and I’m gonna do it all out….to prove that I’m not broken. I might be scarred … I might look different and walk different, and have to live different, but I’m still me and I’m still able to do anything I wish to”.

I didn’t know what to say after that, I was pretty speechless, there were some pretty powerful statements made from these four and I’m so glad I got a chance to chat with them and get an insider view of their insider experience.

I’m inspired by each of their incredible stories, and I find it fascinating that I can relate to each of them as their brands sound a lot like mine! They each inspire, encourage, and empower and it’s wonderful to see that in this recap video reel of their β€œFan’s Eye View” campaign and their week at the event here:

You can catch up on all of their behind-the-scenes photos and videos by following them on Twitter: @blackgirlsgolf @kthorsford @timlanggolf @thedanplan. Follow along in their journeys with me!

I hope you’ve had an amazing week and I can’t wait to catch you up on what happened this week!

SPORTS AND FASHION!

I always find a way to incorporate my sense of style into everything I do…..including sports! Today I share with you this week’s goals and all of the week’s happenings…while wearing colorful kicks! I’ve been following the #ATTProAm which is being held just a hop and a skip away from where I am in L.A., and some incredible things have happened this week!

Let’s catch you up – I’ve been following the Foursome: Tim, Katie, Tiffany, and Dan who are receiving the VIP treatment for a Fan’s Eye View at this year’s #ATTProAm. You can follow them via twitter @TimLangGolf, @KtHorsford, @BlackGirlsGolf and @TheDanPlan.

Dan McLaughlin-2

This week I got to ask them each a few questions that I’m so excited to share with you! Some things they participated in this past week so far, besides an up close and personal experience during the event, they had the opportunity to meet with Veterans at the VTC Monterey and helped deliver food. They got to interact with kids at the Boys & Girls Club and be inspired by those they inspire, and they got to tee off on one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever seen!

I’ve been so motivated by their stories and found that I relate to each of them in a different way but in a way that reminds me that we are all so similar in life’s struggles and in life goals. So I decided to set some fun goals for myself this week!

Look I'm golfing!

My goal was to play the course in as few strokes as possible…which for me is usually an embarrassing 4+ strokes per hole. Starting off with a reasonable yet attainable goal for myself….that is key. So I took my skills out onto the golf course….yes that is a Putt Putt course. You have to start somewhere right, and for me it was just fun to focus on the basics of form and swing.

Hole in 1!
Golfing during the day with no one around, I was really able to experience how a sport like golf- when appreciated, can be so calming as it requires great focus and attention. It’s easy to find the appeal in it even if I’m not so great at it. I think people love it for that challenge and the competitiveness of it when playing against someone or in a competition. It takes strategy but it’s also fun. It doesn’t hurt that the sport is played outside, on a beautiful field, where you can also enjoy being surrounded by nature…I especially love that part of it. Here is my ‘happy nature’ smile.

Success!

Please be sure to check out the bios on each of the Foursome and see what about the sport they love so much!

AT&T Pebble Beach

The AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am And the β€œFan’s Eye View” Foursome

For all of my fellow athletes and sports fans out there, this one’s for you! I’m so thrilled to be covering some of the excitement happening this year over at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and sharing them with you!

Let’s catch you up: this is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour,
held annually – every February, in Pebble Beach, California (wahooo that’s close to me!)

What does that mean? If you follow the sport of golf than you know that this is a pretty exciting time! What’s even more exciting is that this year, AT&T has invited four golf fans to the tournament to cover it from the fan’s perspective. More on why I’m so happy to have this Foursome represent all of us shortly.

So this February is the 30th year that AT&T is the title sponsor for the event, and they’re making it a special one by having this awesome Foursome come out to experience the event first hand! So if you aren’t able to make it out this year you’ll still be able to experience what it’s like to be there and what makes this tournament one of a kind.

I connected instantly with each of the four fans through their stories and I’ll explain why. First let me just say that they make we want to take my PutPut status to Professional!

Foursome_PB_HeadShots

Let me introduce you to the awesome Foursome that were invited out to the event and why I’m so excited to have them represent us while they’re there!

Meet Dan McLaughlin:

Dan quit his day job as a commercial photographer (can I get a high five because we’ve all wanted to do this at some point but were too afraid to) to pursue golf professionally. I know first hand how scary it is to abandon a constant to pursue a dream. Dan spent 30+ hours a week practicing and perfecting a method he calls the β€˜Dan Plan’. I’m excited to ask him what the β€˜Dan Plan’ is and share with you his secret!

Meet Katie Horsford:

Katie is 17 years old who has utilized golf as an outlet for her personal growth and as a motivational tool towards building her self esteem and personal identity. Like most teenagers her age, she found that navigating her way through life could be difficult and full of confusion. This is actually one of the reasons I pulled my daughter (also 17) out of high school after her sophomore year. However, through the sport Katie has developed into a confident and strong young lady and welcomes this exclusive opportunity, knowing that it’s one step closer to playing at Pebble Beach herself. I’m really excited to get to sit down with her and ask what her goals for this year are.

Meet Tiffany Fitzgerald:

Tiffany left corporate America to take on an important leadership role. She founded the site, blackgirlsgolf.net, where she provides hands on instructions, ladies-only golf outings, and a supportive atmosphere for growth. As a woman of color, I am so happy to discover other women empowering one another and supporting one another in an encouraging way. She offers the education you need to be able to participate in conversation that you would’ve maybe have been intimidated by before. I’m excited to ask her what motivated her to become leader of such an amazing movement.

 Meet Tim Lang:

Tim is a Marine Veteran who after being terribly injured by an IED explosion in Iraq, utilized golfing as an amazing healing source and form of rehabilitation. He is a motivational speaker and is extremely inspirational to anyone who hears his story. He defied the odds and attacked his training with amazing perseverance and strength. I’m most drawn to his story because I grew up in the military world. My dad was a Drill Sergeant in the Army for 23 years, served tours abroad, and when he retired he found his peace in the sport of fishing.

I’m so inspired by each of their four stories and I can’t wait to experience all of the awesome things they’ll see and do while at Pebble Beach this year. The Foursome will utilize HTC devices and the AT&T Network to document their journey and share via social media during their week at the #ATTPROAM, and some things we can look forward to being documented are:

  • The Foursome playing in the Boys & Girls Club Pro-AM
  • Walking THE course with the Pebble Beach Historian
  • Teeing off on the iconic Pebble Beach course
  • Experiencing a meet & greet with pro golfer, Jordan Spieth

Not to mention they’ll also get to chat with some celebrities and help raise money for charity Golf pros! How amazing does all of this sound?! That’s just a splice of the activities that they’ll be participating in and documenting next month, so be sure to follow along on their journey as they share it all with us via social media. You can keep up with the Foursome via their Twitter handles and by following the #ATTProAm hashtag:

@TimLangGolf
@BlackGirlsGolf
@TheDanPlan
@KTHorsford

I’m beyond thrilled to share with you their responses to some questions I have for each of them and to get a more personal look at these four; as they get a more personal look at the #ATTPROAM for us! So stay tuned for an exclusive sit down with them and please follow them on Twitter (profile handles above), and you’ll use #ATTPROAM to keep up to speed with all of the happenings!

“The more relaxed you are, the better you are at everything: the better you are with your loved ones, the better you are with enemies, the better you are at your job, the better you are with yourself.” – Bill Murray

Have a great week!!!

A Collection Styled by me! Ahhh!

I’m still screaming over this! I am so so excited to finally share with you a collection that I curated, all of the styles I love and wear. From picking out the outfits myself, to styling them, naming them, and hand writing out their packaging post cards, I’m beyond over joyed to give to you my #Glamistree collection.

If you’ve ever liked anything about my style, you can now shop the entire look featured, or individually pick out your favorite pieces. I had such a blast with my team going downtown L.A. and finding the perfect spots to photograph each look.

Ever since I started my channel back in  2009 I’ve always wanted to do something that was very close to me, something I could launch that I really stood behind….a makeup line, a skincare line, a clothing line…something. And this is it!

How did it all start?? Well by the power of the internet, Glamistree reached out to me about doing a collaboration, but we were both wondering how we could merge the two brands so that they stayed true to each original concept. Then I was like hey I love fashion (never said I was great at it, but I know what I love) and they’re like hey we DO fashion! I loved so much that they wanted this to be a very personal experience for me and for my audience. They made sure everything was true to my brand from the packaging and postcards, down to the details of each look.

So then I got to shop their entire warehouse, from existing styles to not yet featured ones, and let me tell ya, I was in fashion Heaven!!! To be able to touch each dress, and get a feel for the fabric and the quality, and to put my own personality and brand behind them makes me so unbelievably proud.

After I chose out my favorite 15 looks of my first collection, I then styled each of them as I would wear them personally. I hand picked all of the accessories from head bands to bangles, I named them quirky names like the “Purrrfectly Blanc Bombshell”, and then wrote out each description for each look. The last step in putting this all together was taking the outfits downtown and photographing them in all the beautiful places there. Viktorija Pashuta was our photographer and I’m absolutely obsessed with her, she made me feel so comfortable and I love the photos so much!

My most favorite part about teaming up with Glamistree is our “Try before you buy” policy! You get to try up to 2 looks for up to 5 days, in the comfort of your home, at no charge. I love this because you get to try on the entire look and make up your mind without the pressure of purchasing something you’re not in LOVE with! And you’ll love them all, I promise, I know I do! You can then pick and choose piece by piece your favorite items, or buy the entire look!

Another amazing thing is that Glamistree is not a subscription service so unlike a lot of other fashion sites out there, you’re not paying to check out any of my collections. I really love that. I don’t think anyone should have to pay for something they don’t love because I know I wouldn’t.

And lastly, but the most important part of all of this to me, is that I get to give back. Not heavily advertised (because at what point do I share with the world what I want to do with my brand, like really do with it), is that a percentage of my proceeds will be donated to supporting shelters that help women and children escape abusive homes. I don’t think anyone knows this about me unless they know my past, something I don’t talk about a lot but would like to start doing. I know what it’s like to be in an abusive home. I know why people, both men and women, stay in them. I know what it’s like to be depressed and have no one to talk to or turn to. And I know what it’s like to feel trapped like you have no where to go.

So it makes me so happy to share with you a collection I’m so close to, and a cause that I’m so passionate about. Thank you for always supporting what I do, watching my videos, reading my words, and now dressing yourself in styles picked out by me, and thank you for supporting causes I hold dear to my heart.

You can check out my entire collection by clicking here, so head on over to the site, and please tag me (@jess_lizama and @glamistree) with the hashtag #Jess&Glamistree so I can see how beautiful you look in the looks and how you chose to style them yourself!

This is my Glamistree Glam squad! My daughter Corrine (who also shot all the BTS), my new all time favorite people Monique, and Ash, and this is us doing a ‘that’s a wrap’ jump! I love them all so much and I’m so honored to be a part of it all, thank you Ash and Monique for this opportunity!

A sneak peak at some of the looks I put together up on the site now. Check out the names I gave them πŸ˜‰ You’ll love the descriptions even more!

Because I can never be serious.

 All the love,

 Jess

Weekend sunforgettable moments

See what I did there? πŸ˜‰ I know, I’m pretty smooth right. So this weekend we joined my FLAMA fam bam at Uforia fest in LA where we saw performances by Becky G., Kid Cudi, and others and it was a blast! I love festival season, I love festival crowds, the food, the dancing, and the fashion! Lets hold hands and frolic on the grass.

So if you didn’t know, I have a YouTube channel, click here to check it out, and well I have 3 of them actually. And I love that I’m able to work with the amazing companies like Univision where I get to create original content for them on FLAMA, all the while working with some of my uber talented friends, some of which you see here <3

This is my Joe, Steve Greene, Nikki Limo (she’s my most favorite) and Eric Jimenez.

So before I jump into all of our Uforia fest.  shenanigans, and how we really did frolic around, let me tell you the goods first. What I had with me, on me, annnnd in my fanny pack. Ha I love that thing! So first thing’s first, I am a tan girl who loves being tan but hates the sun on my face. I’ll be the ONLY one on the beach under an umbrella and covered up like it’s winter…in the middle of summer.

1. So of course I bring a big ol’ floppy hat with me like this here. I love that it shades my face, keeps the sun out of my eyes, and also goes great with my get up! Winning!

2. The perfect plum rose colored round Lauren Conrad sunnies here. My friend and celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese gave these to me, I love adding the celebrity stylist to her name because I’m so stinkin proud to call her a friend. andshestylesmeyayyy! They’re stylish, give ultraviolet protection, and shade my eyes so I’m not squinting all day.

3. I won’t leave home without sunscreen. And my wallet. I love this Colorescience SPF 50 powder sunscreen here, because it’s perfect sized, you just toss it in your bag or tote and you’re always protected. Literally. I love that it’s a powder so I can dust it over my makeup and it takes away the shine and gives me sun protection. I even get Joe to put it on because he hates lotions. Trickin’ him to wear sunscreen one day at a time πŸ˜‰

4. Also a festival favorite of mine are these Bath & Body Works spearmint lip shine here, and their mini hand sanitizer here. Because one, a lip gloss is a girl’s go to, and two, well the bathroom sitch at these kinds of events can leave you feeling mooky and like you need to take a bath in some sanitzer.

5. Fun festive bangles like these here, also a gift from Lindsay, they were pearl colored and I loved how they were the perfect accent to the color in my kimono! Accessories accessories.

6. Breezy, colorful, patterned kimono because well it’s not a festival without a kimono in my opinion. I love the flow of them, how they pair well with everything, and they can take a super casual outfit and dress it up just a bit. Fun flare! I got this one at a crafts fair but any colorful kimono will do the job!

7. And last but definitely not least, this light up headband is everything. Also a gift from Lindsay…yes she’s an angel actually. I felt like such a fire fly floating around the grounds with my glow in the dark floral head piece. I was a fairy guys. A real fairy! I’m not sure where she got this one, but if you pop ‘light up floral headband’ into google, you’ll find a ton! They’re the most fun to have at any night time outdoor event.

Okay, now back to the shenangians! Oh, PS I kept almost all of this in a fanny pack. It was a definite must have!

Okay okay, so this is me and Jocelyn, she won the Flama contest and we got to spend the day with her filming all kinds of fun stuff including a sriracha taco eating contest, and spoiler alert…I WON! hahaha Video will be live on their channel soon! Check out other comedy sketches I created from them here

Some things we did besides laugh our butts off and film a ton of fun sketches, we dancing around to music, Nikki and I frolicked on the grass like hummingbirds, yes an oxymoron I know, we were having so much fun! Eating all the food from the food trucks, partaking in beverage drinking, singing, dancing, and merriment. I love festivals.

And this is me walking to the car before the festival, please note my fanny pack just casually on my hip and my headband ready to go! So much fun! If we met at the Uforia festival and you got a picture with me, please tag me (@jess_lizama) on Twitter or Instagram, I’d love to make a collage with them!

I hope you get to go out to at least one festival this summer, let me know in the comments if you are or if you have! I love hearing stories!

Hugs from me to you,

How to get sexy summer time legs!

What a title huh?! Not just summer time legs, but SEXY summer time legs ladies! So something I’ve been seeing floating around is this coffee grounds craze….coffee making your skin glow, coffee making your clothes cleaner, coffee disintegrating your cellulite….wait what?! Yes, scrubbing away cellulite with coffee grounds, sounds crazy but let me tell ya..

Ok so I made up the part about coffee making your clothes cleaner πŸ˜‰ But the part about it scrubbing your cellulite away….well that part was true. I think. I’d like to believe any way. So this is the scoop, I made these coffee bars (pictured above is my happy face as I run off to take a shower and scrub my butt down ha literally), as I read in a boat load of places that coffee grounds will help with cellulite.

No matter how much I work out or eat right, it’s just not in my gene pool to have tight toned skin behind my legs, just not happenin’. So I’ve done a few things to make me feel sexier when I don bikinis and here’s how. The coffee scrubs, I’ve been using them for the past few months and I swear by them now, the reason I feel they work is because you’re scrubbing and exfoliating your legs, therefore improving over all circulation, making your skin soft and smooth, and coffee is a diuretic so when you apply it to the skin topically, it releases the water from your cells, less water, less bumpage…less bumpage, lessens the appearance of cellulite.

No I’m not obsessed with perfect legs…ok maybe just a lil bit. I work out so I like to feel and see the difference, but my legs biologically were created for climbing coconut trees okay, so technically it isn’t even my fault that they suck. Haha I’m just saying I use all the help I can give myself to feel good about myself and a lil scrub a dub bin in the shower with the bars helps. Then afterwards I use a body oil, been obsessing over Salma Hayek’s Nuance jojoba dual phase body oil. It has coconut oil and passionfruit oil in it, like whoa. Feels amazing on my skin, absorbs quickly, and then I rub a body BB cream all over my legs.

Yup you heard read correctly, BB cream for your body. Thanks Jergens, pretty brilliant. A light weight fast absorbing, light reflecting, slightly sparkly lotion that hydrates and illuminates.

About 3 times a week I’ll use the Tarte maracuja oil brazilliance self tanning lotion, it’s amazing, gives you a natual looking very subtle tan, and get this, it DOESN’T smell! Ugh I hate self tanning smells, smells like burning plastic. This stuff actually smells awesome sauce. And lastly, on those days that I’m running out in a bikini having had pizza for dinner and not working out for a few weeks (this is more often than not), I will hit my legs with a few quick sprays of a self tanning perfecting spray like the Sally Hansen airbrush legs. Literally makes your legs look airbrushed, just be sure to moisturize other wise you just look tan and ashy.

So for the coffe bars you’ll need:
6 TBLspoons of coffee
5 TBLspoons of white sugar
2 teaspoons of corn starch
2 teaspoons of baking soda
3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
2 TBL of melted coconut oil

Mix all of the ingredients together in a big ol’ bowl and take a spray bottle with water in it and dampen the mixture (about 10 spritzes) but DO NOT dissolve the ingredients, you’re just trying to have them stick together well not melt.

Then use a mold of some sort (I use cupcake trays and this mold lasts me about 3-5 showers worth) and then press firmly into the mold and leave em in the fridge over night and walaaaa!

I like to use the bars in the shower before I shave my legs, just rub gently in circular motions, kind of massaging the area. Tis awesome!

Is this a bit much to do just because you have a bit of cheese on your legs or your booty…yes, but do I love it and feel it’s necessary…yes…do I regret scrubbing my butt…no πŸ˜‰

TMI I know, but I’m real with you here so those are some tricks for those sexy summer time flawless legs. See ya next week for secrets on summer time beach hair! A whole month of summer time hacks!

Hapa hugs,

Jess
