Festival Fashion!

It’s festival season! With our Burning Man and Coachella, and the umpteen other festivals happening this summer I thought I’d share with you my all time staple festival fashions, and carry along must haves! Since I’m headed to Uforia Fest next month with my FLAMA fam bam (which I hope to see you at), here are some things that I will make sure to pack with me. Grab your satchel and let’s do it!

First up is a hat!

– A big ol’ summer friendly, sun blocking floppy hat! I have a few I wear each summer and I always end up buying a new one, but floppy hats are fashionable and necessary if you want to see the stage and save your face 😉 -Some sunnies, preferably the mirrored kind, because let’s be real, mostly sunglasses are for looking at butts and partially for protecting our eye holes.

Now if you know my personal style than you know I’ve included a kimono of some sort and next month I’ll be wearing my most recent favorite!

– A black mesh kimono I got from Wasteland, it goes with everything, it’s light and airy, and it really does scream ‘We’re at a festival wooo’!

For the outfit part of it I’m going with something that allows for a breeze but something still cute yet comfortable.
So I’m going with a high waisted skirt, a mesh cool white crop top, and a black bandeau for underneath. Combat boots are a must for both walking around in a bunch and to protect my feet from being trampled on by the people around me.
So now for the goodies I pack with me. I always bring two bags, a satchel and a fanny pack. Yes you read that right, a fanny pack haha. I’m bringing those back, I don’t’ know why they ever went out of style.

Some staples to have on hand!

– Water! Hydrate hydrate hydrate. All that cheering, singing along, and walking, will make you very parched. I always carry along some Emergen C packets with me to pop in my water and now I’m hydrated and healthy!
-A hair tie, a couple of them actually, for when I’m sick of my hair and I want it up and out of my face.
-Foot spray! Sounds cooky but you’ll thank me when all around you smell B.O. and your feet smell like peppermint and feel super refreshed.
-Sunscreen: Even though you’ll have your big ol’ floppy hat and your sunnies for eye and skin protection, you still have to wear some sun screen. I love love Arcona’s sunscreen, it smells like cucumbers and is amazing for your skin (fruit derived)
– A makeup setting spray. Yes! You’ll be in the heat and sun for extended periods of time, dancing around, hugging people, give your makeup a spritz before you head out to make sure your makeup stays all day long! I love Urban Decay’s setting spray as it keeps your skin cool and your makeup put!
– Deodorant: Back to that B.O. we were talking about, you don’t want to be that person! I always carry a travel sized deodorant with me..just in case 😉
– Dry shampoo. Now this may seem a lil odd but hear me out. Some festivals require that you camp out where the festivities are happening, that means usually no daily showers. So to avoid itchy heads and smelly scalps (ewww), I carry Detox’s dry shampoo with me. They have a travel sized one, perfect for toting around, it smells so fresh and so clean, and it gives your hair some OOMMPPHH!
-Lip oil.  Or limp balm, which ever tickles your fancy, this is Hourglass’s lip oil, it has 19 essential oils in it, like whoa! It has a copper tip that adds a cooling effect and I like that I don’t have to stick my hands near it at all…germs. I’m a germaphobe so the fact that it just pumps out and I can swipe it on…win!
-Rose water! I live by this stuff. Rose water is a great skin refresher for throughout the day, especially on hot days and it smells fresh and Whole Foods carries a smaller bottle so you can pop it in your fanny pack and roll out 😉

And I think you’re set! These are some of the things I carry with me when I go to music festivals or art walks. Some staple items to keep me calm and cool. I always carry some almonds or a food bar with me also to fight off any hulking out ‘hangry’ moments. The satchel is great for all the carry sized things and the fanny pack is wonderful to keep your personal items personal.

Festival fashion is always so fun to switch up. Sometimes I’m rocking the kimono and high waisted skirts, and other times I’m dancing around in my cut off shorts and crop tops 😀 It really is all about what makes you feel comfortable and confident, and the things that make you happy…..like foot spray! lol

So I hope to see some of you next month at Uforia Fest! Let me know what some staple festival or to go items are and I’ll see you right back here soon!

hugs and high fives,

Jess

Style Watch with Pop Basic

Basics are all you need to dress up or dress down for any event and today’s style watch features Pop Basic and how I styled myself in this business chic outfit for an occasion.

This week I did a guest spot on Inside The Noise, a radio station hosted by two hilarious and witty actors, Chrissy and Barry right here in L.A.  I thought, oh I don’t need to dress up or anything it’s just my voice. But then I thought, wait, they’re going to do photos and behind the scenes video, so I decided that I should probably put myself together.

I went with a business chic lil number, and if you know me than you know I love being comfortable but there are times when I have to be trendy and professional, and this is my happy medium. I’ve been talking about Pop Basic for the past few weeks because it’s something I recently discovered, so if we’re friends and you’ve already heard this spiel it’s ok, love me still 😉

So unlike a normal subscription you hear about where they pester you each month, Pop Basic is something you check in at your leisure for their latest and greatest collections, and it’s an awesome way to stay trendy but in the comfort of your own style preferences. I like being trendy but I struggle with it because being comfortable is just too strong of an emotion for me. So this month when I saw the basics they are featuring, I just really enjoyed the colors and how I knew I could style them so many different ways.

They feature micro collections each month and this month is the Paloma collection, with it’s grey leather clutch, and featuring a rose gold zipper. I accessorized this outfit with the Paloma clutch, and I don’t usually wear clutches because they’re too small to carry most of my things, but this clutch is pretty spacey.

For the outfit itself, I took the Pop Basic white tee, tied it up on the side since my skirt is pretty scrunchy on one side, and paired it with my black asymmetrical skirt. Over top I threw on my Forever 21 black blazer, wore my Steve Madden strapped DeJaVu pumps, and popped on this beautiful necklace my friend Lindsay Albanese gave me. I finished off this business-y chic-y (is that a word?) look with my Urban Outfitters sunnies and off I went!

Not featured in this photo is the 3rd basic that came in this month’s Pop Basic delivery, a grey striped infinity scarf. It’s a bit warm here in L.A. so I opted out of the scarf, but when I do style it with an outfit, I’ll be sure to show you what I do with it! Each month they also send you a lil make up goodie as a treat and this month I got a strawberry lip gloss that doubles as an awesome lip balm!

Probably the only fashion thing I’m fairly good at is dressing up and dressing down my basics, they’re versatile and no matter how you outfit them, they’re comfortable and that’s important to me. What’s your favorite style of clothing to wear, your go to look?

I’ll link everything I’m wearing just click on the item in my description and it’ll let you shop the look. Pop Basic also has a referral program so here is mine to you 😀 $15 your collection here! And they offer free shipping world wide so if you get the Paloma collection, tag me on Twitter or Instagram so I can see how you styled your basics!

So that’s my style watch for today, see you next week when I’ll talk about crop tops and how obsessed I am with them. Any styles you obsessed with as of lately? Let me know, I love hearing from you all! Oh and if you want to see me talking about this in my video blog, it’s live on my YouTube channel here

Have a beautiful day!

Getting my fix!

Hi! I know it’s been a bit since I’ve written a post on here, so much is going on, so lets catch up! If you watch me on YouTube than you know I’m vlogging daily on my channel now. Click here to check those out, it’s ‘vlog a day in May’, which means I pick up my camera every day and video blog my life. I’m used to doing comedy, writing sketches, being impersonal about things so this is very different for me, but I like it! Also I started a blog with my daughter Corrine, click here for it, it’s called spoiledpeaches.com and she and I take turns over there writing posts. It’s a way for she and I to stay connected while she is away at college so I’m starting now! So today I’ll share with you my style watch for the week, it’s a few pieces I received from Stitch Fix.

So Stitch Fix is a monthly service that I subscribe to, where a personal stylist sends me a box of clothes that fit my style profile, my sense of style, and that are on trend. Now if I’m not being styled by someone on set, or my daughter doesn’t help dress me, I do not know fashion. I would live in uggs and sweats if it weren’t for monthly little packages being sent to me, dressing me up.

The dress above is one of the 3 pieces I kept from the box and I sent the rest back. It’s convenient for me since they include a return bag and label, just to pop in what I don’t want to keep and send back. The clothes come once a month and I can choose to keep and pay for the pieces I want, or send it all back. The monthly fee I pay for that service is $20, but I usually make that back in purchases as the stylist that I have knows my style pretty well I think.

Here are some of the other items that came in this months shipment. They send 5 things at a time, 4 pieces of clothing, usually 2 tops, a dress or skirt, a pair of jeans or slacks, and an accessory of some kind.

So I ended up just keeping the skinny jeans, the dress I’m wearing, and the arrow cuff bracelet. The two tops were not really my style, a lil too loose fitting and plain for something I would host in, yet too dressy for my normal casual lifestyle. So I sent the two blouses back and the things I kept they automatically charged me for upon receipt of my return. Pretty awesome service!

What I like most is that I don’t have to think about what’s on trend, what’s up and coming, I set it all in my style profile, I switch it up sometimes from business casual, as seen above, to dressy, or sometimes I go super boho and only request flowy skirts and off the shoulder tops. Check out the service if you need a lil help like me, let me know what you think! And if you’re already a member, let me know what was in your fix this month!

See you here later next week and over on our spoiledpeaches.com blog.

Stay awesome!

Cozy Casual and Kimono Crazed Inspired Outfits!

Here’s my style watch for the weekend, I’m back with my Cotton Supply Co. tees and today I’m showing you how I take two of my favorite tees, same from yesterday’s post, and pair them up with different patterns.

First up, I took my ‘Bel Air Vintage Black’ tee and paired it with some black and white polka dot skinny jeans. Underneath the tee I wore a black lace bandeau and I loved how the red Tieks gave the look a pop of color. Color blocking in this way is fun for me since I don’t venture out in bold colors very often! For accessories I kept it pretty simple since I was just taking my lil one out for a mommy/ daughter date, and wore a red African beaded necklace, grabbed my black tote, and of course went with my favorite pair of Aviator sunnies.

And for the last look with my tee, I went with a super cute and trendy kimono look. I am OBSESSED with this kimono. Obsessed y’all! So I wore my ‘OC White’ tee with some basic black leggings, and brought back my favorite JustFab pumps, because well, they’re everything! This floral print kimono I dress up sometimes with a black dress and sparkly jewels or I dress down like I did in this picture for a lunch meeting I went to with this beauty, Miya! For accessories I wore a silver vintage necklace, some plain silver stacked bangles, my grey tote from JustFab, and completed it all with my aviator sun glasses! Tadaaaa!

So those are the 4 different ways I wear my favorite tees! You can click any of the highlighted text to shop the look, the Cotton Supply Co was kind enough to give everyone 20% off with the code Jess20 at checkout! I enjoy these style posts, so I hope you do also. Please tag me on Instagram and Twitter with your favorite way to wear a tee and I’m choosing a bunch of you to win a tee of my favorite style!

Love you all so much, and rock on ya sexy beast!

Stye Watch – Urban Casual Meets Casual Chic!

It’s style watch time! So besides sharing the recipes I love, listing my favorite things to do, and my lifestyle tips,  I will also bring you my favorite fashion trends! This is some of my personal style and my spin on some of the current trends.

If you know me personally than you know that I love comfort! You’ll find me in heels when I host and at events, but when I’m lounging around or running errands around town, it’s all about that cute and comfortable kind of style!

I recently teamed up with the Cotton Supply Co. who I love for their feminine cuts yet comfortable in fit. Here are some ways that I dress up and dress down my tees! Click here to shop the look!

Above is their ‘City Of Angels’ tank in black, and I took it and added my own urban flare to it by wearing it over leggins and paired with grey wedged sneakers. Under the tee I have on a lacey blue bandeau and over top, a printed vest. I fell inlove with this aztec gold necklace from Urban Outfitters so I put that on and grabbed my grey tote and off I went for a tea time date! The perfect pair of sunnies and some gold bangles finished off the look, and I felt cute and trendy, but most of all, comfortable!

For my birthday I went with casual chic. I just love taking tee shirts and sassing them up with some accessories and a sexy pair of pumps! It takes the look from casual to chic with just some simple additions of accessories, and a minor tuck of the tee!

In this look I took the ‘Malibu White’ tee and tied it up on the side (remember the 80’s style side knots?! Yes those! I did that to this tee and it rocked!), and paired it with an asymmetrical black skirt which took the look  from casual to chic as you see above.

My JustFab pumps sexy-fied the outfit, and I figured that with the skirt and the side zipper jacket, it would dress the outfit up enough to go out for my birthday dinner, and it was! For my accessories I kept it pretty simple, a silver antique necklace for a lil sparkle on my neck, some silver stacked bangles, and my black sunnies!

Since my outfit was pretty dressed up, I tied my hair up in a top knot, kept my makeup to a smokey eye and a nude lip, and off we went to explore San Diego’s Gaslamp District! So fun! Click here to shop the look!

I think you can take any casual piece of clothing and dress it up, dress it down, take it to chic, or even give it an urban feel just by accessorizing it with some mood inspired pieces. Shoes can make any outfit say what you want it to say, and adding a simple jacket or vest can elevate your outfit as well!

Keep that in mind if ever you need some fashion inspiration, and if you like some of the pieces I have above, you can get 20% off with jess20 at checkout! Thanks to the Cotton Supply Co for sharing the love with my audience! Check them out and tag me on Instagram and Twitter so I can see how you style the tees!

I have some more style watch posts coming from you soon so stay tuned! 😀

Keep stylin you sexy thang!

xoxo – Jess
