FALL FASHION LOOK BOOK!

Fall fashion in L.A. looks a lot like summer fashion in L.A.! We’re spoiled in California with its sunny days and 85 degree conditions, so when it gets cooler than 75 we all freak out! Here are my some of my favorite fashion pieces of the season … and ahem Black Friday sale steals!!! Because, pictures or it didn’t happen!

One of my favorite looks the ‘casual chic’ look. I wear this out to run errands and trek around the town in. I paired these high-waisted vegan leather leggings with a wrap around crop top and one of my favorite pieces – this maxi blazer. Blazers just make any outfit feel a bit more dressed up, and in juxtaposition of that, I completed this outfit with these Nike Thea running shoes. I’ve been pairing these shoes with a bunch of different looks lately, the style of it make them feel more formal, and in this case they serve to dress down the look in a casual chic kind of way.

Here’s a front view of this outfit … I call this pose the ‘flailing bird’. I like to throw myself into awkward positions when I’m posing in public, just makes it more fun for me when people begin to stare! These sunglasses have been a summer favorite of mine and I plan on wearing them on through next summer! Another accessory I’ve loved through the seasons is this Michael Kors purse, it’s sleek and classic, and one of my favorite color combinations – navy blue and gold.

What’s a Fall look book without including the ever coveted over-the-knee boots?! Of course when these babies went on sale I had to have them! I have these boots in tan also, but black boots feel more sleek when paired with other solid colors. This look I wear out to lunch meetings and when I’m feeling fancy enough to show off some bare midriff!

This look could be more casual if you paired the outfit with some booties and swapped the vest for a cardigan. I love putting together high waisted shorts with crop tops, especially if they are asymmetrical. This crop top has a higher neck line so a simple silver necklace and cat eye sunnies were all the accessories it needed. Besides, this moto vest was a great accessory on its own with silver hardware, zippers, and front snaps. Scalloped shorts like these Nasty Gal ones are great for every shape and size trust me! I’m short and I felt like the shape of these were perfect and weren’t cut at unflattering angles. Sheer tights and these thigh high boots complete the look for a trendy and sexy ensemble!

I saved the best for last! Take this look out on a date night, a girls night out, or if you’re just feeling like your sexy self! This is a more daring look with some classy, and casual, flare to it; featuring a strappy cut out bralette and high waisted scuba leggings.

If this feels like it’s more skin than you’d like to bare, have no fear, I brought back the maxi blazer to calm the nerves. This knee length skinny scarf also adds to the modesty of the top, drawing the eye to the classiness of the bow and not the lines in the triangle top. These scuba leggings are also a great way to bare less yet be more bold, they’re high waisted and feature a double buckle that you often see in dress pants. A wonderful addition to this look which also carry out the casualness of it, are these faux leather loafers. Shoes really do set the tempo for a look. These more casual shoes dress the outfit down more than a pair of pumps would. Have fun with it though and if you love your pumps, wear them like no one is watching … or is that dancing? (both!)

I hope you enjoyed this Fall look book, these were some of the pieces I picked up after Black Friday last week and I just had to share! If you’d like to see this in moving form, check out the look book over on my YouTube channel where I twirl like nobody’s business!

What are you most looking forward to this holiday season? The fashion? The food? Did you splurge on sales like I did?! Let me know and I’ll see you Friday with a festive beauty tutorial!

Fall Moodboard: Lifestyle with Corrine

Fall is my FAVORITE and being a Scorpio, rightfully so. With Summer in Los Angeles nearly over, my excitement and anticipation is already starting to settle in. In preparation of chunky knits, chelsea boots, and warm cups of cocoa, I have put together a charmingly simple fall mood board to inspire and create those warm fuzzy feels the season invokes. Disclaimer: the photos you see below are not owned by me in any shape or form. I have borrowed them from Pinterest for my own inspiration.

I hope these images inspired to get excited for Fall! Why not curate your own mood board? Fall is on its’ way and I can’t wait for its arrival!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL STYLE WITH CORRINE!

This post is promoted by Sears, and we’re happy to share Corrine’s back-to-school style for this year!

The new school year is almost here and whether your child is starting a new year at middle school, high school, or college, every parent knows that the most fun part about prepping for a new year …  is the shopping!

I remember when I was younger, my siblings and I would nag and beg our parents to take us school shopping because we just couldn’t wait to get new clothes, new shoes, and new supplies! It was the most exciting part about it all! We loved organizing our pencil cases and putting paper and folders into our new binders, and my sister and I especially loved picking out our outfits for the first day of school!

Corrine’s style is much different from mine at her age. I remember color coordinating purple and pink leg warmers to match my purple skirt and pink teeshirt! It was the style of the ’90s and I was all about that side pony tail … and in my defense, the side pony was the modern look of the times! Corrine is much more fashionable than I; she loves creating looks that fit her personality and that speak to the vintage side of her.

This year, her style was influenced by the ’70s and the ’70s modern revival that we’re seeing trend around, which inspired her to create this year’s theme. Since Sears is a great destination for sophisticated and stylish clothing, off we went!

This year’s theme is representative of Corrine’s love of vintage fashion, and she paired each look with some modern pieces to make them her own. We can thank Bongo Girls and Canyon River Blues for this look, featuring these high-waisted shorts, a simple tee, and this crochet fringe cardigan. She paired this ensemble with these black ankle booties and a bolo tie. (The booties are so versitile and you’ll see them again soon!)

The shorts in particular gave this outfit a ’70s revival feel; high waisted with a V-knotched zipper, Corrine loved how simple and classic this was. The “pardon moi” tee has short sleeves and keeps the aesthetic simple with its muted burgundy lettering. She reminded me that this cardigan is perfect for cold classroom temperatures, and that comfort is everything when choosing campus walking shoes.

Keeping with the ’70s theme for this second ensemble, Corrine paired these black Bongo Girls skinny jeans with this white, loose-fit peplum blouse. She brought back the black booties since they pair so easily with everything, and topped the look off with a very simple yet edgy choice for an accessory. She tied a black-and-white bandana around her neck instead of opting for a simple necklace, and added a few stacked rings to fit this relaxed theme.

Corrine jumped for joy over these pieces, and I jumped for joy since we paid under $100 for both of these outfits! What made me most happy was how excited she was to put these looks together! They represent her funky and relaxed personality, and she has a special way of adding her own personal edge to everything she wears. Proud mama over here!

Leave us a comment below telling us what your themed style for this school year will be, and check out how Sassy Dove styled her child’s outfit on her blog soon! All these mamas inspiring me to start styling more!

Thank you for checking in and we’ll see you later this week with our Summer Skin Care Favorites!

REDEFINING WARDROBE BASICS WITH CORRINE

I recently ventured out in search of a closet spruce up. I stumbled upon this season’s plethora of new basics and style must have pieces that I decided needed a place in my closet. On my short excursion I found a variety of styles I would deem “basics” due to their simple, tailored and sophisticated aspects that I find essential to my closet.

Mustard Oversized Crewneck

Mustard is such a rich, forgiving color that it suits every skin tone. Pair it with endless combinations featuring your favorite shorts, moto jacket and crisp white Converse.

Basics #4

Oversized Babydoll Dress

A flowy, oversized babydoll dress is in my book, essential for the warm seasons. I typically pair it my favorite bag, gold necklaces and vintage cowboy boots. It’s a fool proof look for any day out. Although this one isn’t on your everyday must haves list, its fresh and simple, and you can’t go wrong!

Basics #3

Long Maroon Cardigan

Cardigans are my favorite. Simply because they are so versatile, so easily dressed up, dressed down, layer-able and require hardly any effort to style. The possibilities here are endless, and for that reason, cardigans are on the forefront of wardrobe basics. Long cardigans especially, hold a special place in my heart for their easily achievable, effortless look that comes with wearing them with just about everything. Pair it with bell bottoms and ankle booties, a simple tank and some necklaces or a bandana and you’re good to go.

Basics #2: 70's Revival

Cropped Black Button Up
I can’t stress my love for button ups enough! A distunguished, tailored look is easily mastered with these. Wear them alongside your favorite pair of jeans, skirts, and shorts. OR, go for something with a little twist, pair it under a pinafore for an artfully mastered chic appearance.

Basics #1

As you can probably tell, there’s a pattern to these looks. The 70’s revival is coming back. Aside from these funky basics, try a pair of vintage ankle boots, fringe backpacks and suede anything.

Happy Monday xo, Corrine

SUMMER SECRETS IN STYLE + VERSATILITY

Perhaps you’re like me and putting together an outfit each day is a task that involves indecisive questions like; “am I going to be comfortable in this?”, “am I too matchy matchy?”,  and “am I not matchy enough?”. Or perhaps you’re like my fashionista daughter Corrine and putting together an outfit each day is easy peasy so long as you have a few statement pieces! Oh she makes it look so easy.

Well then today’s article is for you! It’s all about taking ONE pair of shoes and remembering that whether you’re dressing them up or dressing them down, that you ARE creative and you DO have versatility skills! Sounds far fetched coming from someone who changes 7 times before stepping out the door *raises hand*, but style is all about being versatile. No matter your fashion skills, or lack there of *raises that hand again*, you can put together a killer look that meets your comfort level and is on trend. After all, confidence comes with how comfortable you are in your own skin, and confidence my friend, looks amazing on you.

Chella baby
As you’ve seen in our most recent posts, Corrine and I teamed up with DSW® to take you through festival season this summer and all of the fashion favorites coming out of it this year. We’re centering the conversation around bohemian themes for you frolicking princesses out there, and colorful trends for you movement motivated ones. What we’ve discovered is that it doesn’t have to be one or the other. You can be both; colorful and trendy, and bohemian bound and comfortable. Here’s what we did with our two most coveted shoe styles of the season, and how we paired them with our personal favorites in fashion.

Chella baby

Corrine’s style combines pops of color with vintage inspired pieces. This more formal ensemble features this bell sleeved white romper with mustard colored leggings for fun, and rose gold accessories. She topped the look off with these pewter booties, going sock less to show off the side cutouts and ankle buckles, and this Aztec backpack features similar hardware which tied the look together. It also showed off its own versatility by doubling as a tote and an awesome accessory.

Chella baby
My personal style is all about being trendy (on accident) while sticking to more flowy and free styles that I’m most comfortable in. I took the same booties and dressed them down with this bohemian themed outfit. Crop tops and kimonos were sprinkled all over the festival; some cool and colorful and others warm in tone and fabric. I followed suit and paired my black kimono with my Natalia Fedner Designs crop top, this ankle length hi-low skirt, and kept it casual with the booties, also opting to go sock less. For accessories I wore a simple bangle and a silver headpiece that went beautifully with the muted colors of the look.

Chella baby
Our second favorite style in footwear this season are these turquoise flat sandals. We love the color variations it comes in and the double strap that makes them more formal than a traditional sandal. For this look Corrine dressed the flats up a bit with these patterned socks which she wore beneath a pair of overalls and a 1960’s inspired tie dyed bathing suit. The vibrant pop of color came from this vintage scarf she tied around her neck that brought out the colors in the bathing suit.

Chella baby
The photo above was snapped of me on our last day at Coachella, and by day three all I wanted was to be comfortable . . . and colorful! Corrine’s style must have rubbed off on my by this point. I kept my look casual per the usual, yet super fun by styling the flats with an equally colorful jacket. I paired it with a simple white crop top, black skinny jeans, and accessorized with the Aztec backpack. I was all about silver this trip so featured here is a metal fringe necklace and some some simple bangles. Also, this was me practicing that ‘pro pose’ look we talked about earlier, while 90,000 people roamed about.

From this photo set you’ll notice that even though Corrine and I have very different styles, and our choices may be opposite from one another when it comes to styling themes and occasions, but we have the same outlook on footwear. The shoes we choose to style are comfortable, trendy, and versatile. They have to be when you have two ladies in the house who wear the same shoe size and it’s debated who gets to wear what! We’ve learned that it’s easy to choose the same pair and give them completely different attitudes by simply incorporating what makes us feel most comfortable as individuals.

If I had to give us each a themed name, it’d be, “Corrine- the vintage queen draped in color”,  and “Jess- the trendy bohemian princess”!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this article and find a way to incorporate what’s trending this season while interjecting your own personal style. We love teaming up with brands to share with you how we approach our every day whether it be in style, travel, or dealing with the occasional fashion dilemma, and hope to have helped you with a dilemma or two while we were at it!

Let us know what your favorite styles are this season and tell us; if you had to live with only ONE pair of shoes for the rest of forever, which pair would you choose and why???

Thanks for sharing in our adventures and we’ll see you later this week!

love, Jess

This past weekend Corrine and I experienced our very first Coachella together! Navigating our way through the festival, dancing as our favorite artists performed live, and taking in all the festival fashion happening around us was on many levels, the best experience ever.

In today’s post we’d like to take you through our weekend experience and share some of our favorite festival fashion moments with you.

COACHELLA!

This was the first view we were greeted by, absolutely stunning. Arriving later in the day (thank you L.A. traffic) we had about 20 minutes of daylight left on day one and lucky for us we were able to stay late into the night since we had so much energy!

COACHELLA!

We were told 95,000+ people attended Coachella this year. That’s bigger than some cities that exist! Here I am taking a little break in between sets enjoying some moments of stillness, and people watching! Festival pro tip #1, tote a backpack like this DSW® Bloom Aztec one with you so that you can carry essentials like water, camera, a blanket, and an extra layer of clothing. Though it gets really hot during the day, once the sun sets it’s pretty chilly in the desert. I styled my Natalia Fedner Designs crop top with this crochet knee-length skirt, a white flowy kimono, and these DSW® crochet wedge sandals which matched the theme of the skirt and kimono perfectly.

COACHELLA!
Day two brought along more sunshine, more flowy festival styles, and booties that every girl should own. Corrine and I both styled our outfits with these DSW® pewter booties that were just as comfortable as they are cute! We got to the venue early on this day, around noon, ready to take on the day…and the dancing!

COACHELLA!
Here I am showcasing my homemade watermelon/lemonade popsicle as well as my bohemian themed outfit. These booties are so versatile that towards the end of the day when it started to get cooler out, I put on some knee-high socks and they didn’t detract from the look at all. I can’t tell you how comfortable they are, except to let you know that I walked 9+ hours in them and my feet didn’t feel fatigued at all.

COACHELLA!
On the third and final day of Coachella I was pretty much a pose pro! Almost every photo you take where there are 90,000+ people, you’re bound to have a photobomber…or two, make their way into your pictures. You’ll also get 89,439 odd looks as you try to perfect your selfie! I didn’t mind it though, Corrine said, “Mom strike a pose”, and this is what I did. I styled my DSW® teal flat sandals with a bit of color blocking and bit of color splash! I love being able to move in my outfit, especially since a majority of our day was spent walking around and dancing, It felt amazing to be comfortable and confident in this final look.

COACHELLA!

Before we trotted off to the last performance of the night, we kicked off our shoes, found a spot on the grass, and enjoyed a chai tea latte. There were 5 stages going on at the same time and there we were in the middle of it all, listening to a collaboration of genres all in one place. It’s nice that in between sets you have time to grab a bite to eat, take a quick nap on the grass, or enjoy music from one of the other stages.

COACHELLA!

And here’s my angel face Corrine, 17 and at a Coachella festival with her mom. This past weekend was one for the books! I can’t express how special it was to be at an event like Coachella, for the first time with my daughter also experiencing it all for the first time.

We love teaming up with brands to bring you different experiences and this weekend we were happy to team up with DSW® who outfitted us in some of the most comfortable yet stylish pieces of the season. We had so much fun putting these looks together! Our goal is to always bring you the latest and greatest, while staying true to our own personal styles. We hope you’ve enjoyed this article as much as we do and please check out DSWShoeLovers to see what else we got into this weekend! We did an Instagram takeover on their page featuring our #FestivalFashion favorites, so if you missed anything head on over there and look for the #DSW and #SaySomethingGreat hashtags for the full story!

Let us know in the comments whether or not you were at Coachella this year, or if you’ve ever been, and what your favorite moment was! My favorite moment was dancing to Yelle with Corrine!

Have a beautiful week!

HEADED TO COACHELLA WITH DSW!

FTC Disclosure: Compensation was provided by DSW® via Mode Media.  The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of DSW®.

Corrine and I are so excited to be joining DSW® at Coachella this year and sharing with you our  Instagram takeover of our most favorite festival fashions! It’s here, festival season is upon us and we’re  heading to Coachella this weekend to check out the festivities for the very first time ever! As Coachella newbies, you know we’ll be jotting down all of our Coachella 101 tips for you as we navigate our way through the fields, the fashion, and the performances!

Besides Coachella being known for it’s amazing line ups, surprise guest performances, and the infamous ferris wheel that makes its way into every Instagram photo from the venue….Coachella is a time for fashion! The most flowy, bohemian themed, tasselled trinkets come out of Coachella each year, inspiring the next year’s fashion themes. From bell bottoms to layered skirts, festival season has everyone’s favorite fashion items in mind and Corrine and I can’t wait to dance around in color and fabric this year! It’s a pretty awesome and pretty special thing to get to attend such a fun event with your daughter. I mean, how cool am I?!

It’s especially special for she and I to attend Coachella this year together, because Corrine is 17 now and her style is so different from mine. We look like loving yet rivaling sisters, she with a 70’s soul and a vintage heart, Corrine loves patterns and pastels. She’s obsessed with bright prints and flat sandals and loves to dress up. I on the other hand love muted colors and bohemian details, I’m more casual and I’m obsessed with wedges and contrast pairings.

I love taking a casual outfit and making something about it chic. An accessory, an iconic flair that’s most likely inspired by Corrine’s fashion sense. She loves taking something vintage and pairing it with an accessory opposite its era…. a 1930’s peacoat over a 70’s style dress. See where I’m going with this? Can you imagine how fun we look together when we’re out shopping, she makes me so proud to be her mom! So we’re really excited to share with you our outfit picks for this year’s event!

In preparation for our road trip up to the venue this year we’ve paired up our favorite festival style DSW® shoes with our most favorite fashion forward picks! 80% of festival fun is the walking around part, checking out the different stages, exploring the grounds, so to wear a comfortable (yet fashionable) pair of shoes goes without saying. Here are our picks for this year’s festivities!

Later this week we’ll share with you how we styled these fun shoes and what theme we will accessorize each with. Shoes are meant to polish off your look, represent your personality, and add a lil sparkle even when you feel like a lil flare! Stay tuned for all the fun starting this Friday on through Sunday where we’ll catch you up on what we’re doing, what we’re wearing, and who we’re listening to live! Also please follow DSW’s Instagram  as we’ll be hosting an Instagram takeover with our adventures featuring our looks from the event! Jlo at the Oscars

GET THE LOOK: JLO AT THE OSCAR’S!

Award show season and New York Fashion Week are the two biggest fashion and beauty inspirations for me and I have to say, at the Oscar’s this year I had SOOO many favorites! Beyonce and JLo topped my list per the usual, so I thought I’d give you a step by step on my take on JLo’s look! So below is my tutorial and listed beneath the photo set is the method and the products I used. It’s fun to play in makeup and I hope you put your own spin on this look and TAG me! <3

makeupOne
1. Prep your skin and then blend out your favorite foundation, shown here is my favorite Chanel Vitalumiere. Then using L.A. Girl’s Concealer draw fun tribal-esque lines under your eyes, between your brows, down the bridge of your nose, and under your chin (to conceal & highlight)
2. After blending that out, fill in any sparse areas in your brows, I’m using Anastacia’s blonde duo kit in dark brown with a firm slanted brush
3. Using Anastacia’s contour kit in light/medium, take a slanted contour brush and contour your face (think a backwards ‘3’ from your temple to your chin, and contour your nose too)
4. Load up a medium flat brush with the color Sonic from the Urban Decay Vice 3  palette and press the color in from lash line to crease creating a wash of this burgundy-pinky color
makeupTwo

5. Take a fluffly crease brush, load it up with the color Alchemy from the same UD palette and brush that color into your crease, sweeping it out slightly for a baby cat eye effect
6. Line your upper lash line with your favorite black pencil and smudge it out a bit with a smudge pencil brush to again enhance that baby winged look
7. Take a slanted brush, dip it into that same Alchemy color and trace just along your lower lash line (since JLo didn’t use any liner on her water line, this enhanced her eyes without making them smaller, woot!)
8. Load up a fluffy blush brush with this beautiful and bright Stila blush and sweep them across the apples of your cheeks

makeupThree

9. Go back into that Anastasia Contour Kit and use the Fawn color to highlight your temples and bridge of nose and then use the Banana color to set the concealer under your eyes – it’s the perfect setting powder
10. Line your lips with this awesome buildable lip liner from Clinique which best matched my Patone Universe Marsala layering in Dusty Cedar
11. Take a pinky-nude gloss like the one I’m using here from Tom Ford in Tawny Pink and layer it over your liner and walaaa!

jessdone1

You are a glowy pinky-rose bombshell!!! I loved this look so much! I tied my hair back in a sleek ponytail and topped off the look with a pair of signature JLo hoop earrings and ta-daaaa! I’m totally channeling her in my final pose haha. I had a lot of fun interpretting this look and I’ll be doing it again later this week with a look from Beyonce that I’m obsessed with!

If the shoe fits

If the shoe fits!

Wear it! With everything am I right?! <—- I should totally do stand up! So style watch… here we go, let’s do this Fall style! *Still doing that Fall evoking thing over here in L.A.* Today I’m going to show you how you can wear one pair of shoes, three different ways this season, and yes with open toe heels! I took my current favorite pair of pumps, these Calvin Klein Vivian patent snake print sandals, and styled them three different ways. And even though it’s getting cooler out, there are a ton of ways you can still get away with wearing your open toed pumps this Fall season!

Take this look out to a brunch meeting or just to a night out with the girls, I call this the ‘casual ballerina’ look. Taking casual to another level here with this JustFab Mandy jumpsuit, which is comfortable and cute with it’s zip up front (and back), and front pockets. I wore this out with my Calvin Klein’s, and even though it’s getting cooler out, the jumper and jacket keep me warm enough. These heels are 4″ leather heels with the daintiest of pronounced platforms, are covered in a sleek snake print, and have a strap that wraps around your ankle. To top the look off I wore this faux leather Easy Jacket also by JF, and to keep the whole ‘ballerina’ thing going, I did the ‘off duty ballerina’ top knot accessorized with this beautiful beaded Free People headpiece. The makeup featured is the ‘line dance’ makeup look, and to see how I did it, head on over to my beauty channel here and watch the tutorial! It took all of five minutes to do! I hope you like it!

Prance around an event in this ensemble or just around – out on your next date night, I call this the ‘sporty chic’ …. and yes I am wearing sparkly ankle socks with these heels! Open toed heels worn with socks are all the rage this coming season! Hey Beyonce did it, so we can totalllyyyy pull it off! I really like how the ankle socks add a bit of edge to the look (and keep my toesies warm), and I kept it girly with this checkered scuba skirt and lace top. If it were a bit colder out, I’d just top this look off with a nice denim jacket and bam ready to dance the night away!

And this look…. which we’ll call the ‘business girl gone bad’ ….because one, I like naming things and two, because I feel like it’s something I’d wear to the office and then run off to an event in! Also take note of this pose, it’s apparently my most favorite pose to do ever. Not sure what it is I’m doing with my arms but we’ll go with it.

So even though it’s windy out, I can still wear my heels so long as I wear these sheer floral tights….and a warm jacket. I’m a bit obsessed with printed tights these days! But for good reason! They’re just so cute with my sandals, and in this JF dress I’m feelin foxy!!! Foxy is still a thing kids say these days right? Well I was feeling foxy and fabulous! I accessorized the look with black chandelier earrings and since the dress has front slits in it I decided no necklace was neccessary. Instead, I slipped on a chunky ring and off I went!

So three fun looks, for three different occasions, styled with one pair of sexy heels. Gotta love how creative us ladies can get when the season changes! Beyond all of the recipes I can cook up that include pumpkin puree, I also love my layers. I’m telling you, Fall season tis the best season! What do you love most about the Fall? About the change in weather? P.S. I say there are no rules in fashion, wear what makes you feel confident! Unless they’re flip flops…..I would say to stay away from socks and flip flops whenever possible 😉

Thanks for sharing in my themed fashion tour today, and I’ll see you soon with another look combining a hairstyle and makeup look you’ll see this Fall! Click here to check out the latest in my series and happy pumpkin spicing!
