MY MORNING SKIN CARE ROUTINE!

Throughout every season change, every temperature rise and fall, there are some staple products that will always remain. I’ll swap out a few products depending on my skin’s dryness level and if it’s prone to breakouts during that time but usually – this is the deal.

Listing out step by step, product by product, my current morning skincare routine. PS don’t be intimidated, it only takes a few minutes PLUS there’s two things here that aren’t technically ‘skincare’ products but I can’t. live. without. them.

1. Cleanse! so so so important. Cleansed skin, closed pores, and ready for your skincare and makeup routines. Milled finely enough I can use it daily, it’s ultra gentle and I alternate between this product and that Tatcha

2. Exfoliate! This is a big one! The most important one if you ask me. No matter your skin type, exfoliating will help to slough off the dead surface skin, promote collagen production, and remove dirt and impurities. You want all those good oils to be produced, even for already oily skin so DON’T skip this step. I can feel this Tatcha enzyme powder working immediately and am currently obsessed with this particular physical form of exfoliation

3. Tone and Hydrate! the Hydrating Essence Toner by Algenist is my FAVORITE and then I personally alternate between A) Vitamin C, which is incredible for your skin; it neutralizes free radicals, prompts collagen production, it’s light, and it absorbs quickly! And B) Hyaluronic Acid serum- which is already a naturally occurring compound found in our skin and it will take your face to a whole other ‘dew level’ babes!

4. Protect! I like to use this Purlisse cream to seal the deal and my Coola SPF or Fre SPF (depending on my type of day), which doesn’t feel to heavy on my skin. This may be too thick for your skin type but the Coola and Fre on their own are pretty light and they’re non irritating. ***remember that the UV radiation from the sun is the #1 contributing factor to aging and skincare problems so protect your skin and your eyes

5. It’s all about the eyes! Speaking of your eyes, my second biggest tip is to NEVER EVER rub or pull on your eye area. Pat gently with your ring fingers, in towards your nose. Pat pat pat! The skin around our eyes is the thinnest of our entire face, hence we age there the quickest! I personally like to just use my moisturizer around my eye area but if you’re going to use a specific eye cream, this is a natural one with light reflecting elements, it’s creamy and ultra rich

6. Don’t forget your décolletage! Just like with your makeup, bring your skincare products down your neck and onto your décolletage…that fancy word for cleavage. I absolutely love this advanced neck cream from Tula, it’s rich without being greasy, and it glides on and stays put. My other go-to neck cream is from Bare Minerals, it’s just so good- I’m on my 2nd tub

7. Beauty from the inside out! You’ve heard me talk about collagen like I talk about chocolate. I love it! I love these marine collagen sachets from Proplenish! I add it to a cup of warm water and lemon in the morning and if I add collagen to my coffee Vital Proteins IS THE WAY TO GO. I love the unflavored one, but the Matcha with some coconut milk …. O M G <3

8. My most favorite part y’all, the invisible accessory! If you know me than you know I’m all about scents….like to an obsession. I mean, the measures I take to tote around about 5 different perfumes with me AT ALL TIMES, yikes. PS I must really love you to share one of my signature scents with you. My other go-to is Le Labo’s Santal 33 or Another 13. They’re so expensive though that my daily is this yummy Givenchy

9. and 10. aren’t pictured, but exfoliating and hydrating my lips is something I do at least twice a week. And then I apply this nice thick and creamy lip balm by Laneige which feels luxurious af

And there you have it! My morning skincare routine … and some essentials in my morning that aren’t necessarily ‘skincare’ products but they ARE ‘can’t live withouts’.

Does this sound pretty standard to your morning skincare routine? Does it sound like too many steps? What’s the ONE thing you must do before you rush out the door? Please say SPF 😉

Daily Vitamins

WHY DO I NEED TO TAKE A DAILY VITAMIN?

This is a question Corrine used to ask me when she was little and it’s still a question Joe asks me when I try to hand him a palm full pills each day. Part of my daily regime is to take a daily vitamin, and about 17 other vitamins that do a few different things.

Daily vitamins

Ok not 17…7, and I know what this looks like…so many vitamins! Why?! How do you do it?! What do they do?! Well I’ll tell you. So pictured above we have . . . the 2 green pills which are for my brain (more on this in a bit), the larger orange pill is fish oil, the smaller tan capsules are a multi-vitamin, the larger tan pills are  anti-oxidants, and the two white capsules are fish collagen. I know what you’re thinking…”whoa back it up….brain pills and fish collagen?!”

Let me explain what they do and it will all make more sense. The first is my daily multi-vitamin. I love this one by the Tone It Up Girls because it’s vegan and gluten free which means my Corriney can take them daily also. Not to mention that it provides 100% of most of everything you need like Vitamin C, E, B6, Folic Acid, Biotin (big one for your hair, nails, and skin), Zinc, and others! So just by taking this one vitamin a day (2 capsules per serving) you’re able to refrain from having to take 805 other pills. I choose to take the other 7 you see, but if you wanted to take only  one vitamin- THIS is it! Simple, wholesome, and almost everything you need! It is a vegan product so the fish oil and collagen I take separately.

Perfect Fit Daily Vitamin

The Super Antioxidant formula smells like fruit which makes complete sense considering it’s comprised of super potent seeds like black cumin, cranberry, pomegranate, black raspberry, grape, milk thistle, and others. Antioxidants are simply molecules that interact safely with free radicals (highly reactive atoms that can start of chain of damaging reactions) thus preventing any damage free radicals may cause. Soooo . . . I take two of these a day.

Ear Bar Organics Super Antioxidant

Fish Collagen I take as it promotes collagen support and reproduction. As we age, there is a progressive break down of collagen in our skin. A loss of firmness and elasticity, the ‘plumpness’ you have in your skin that we try to regain the older we get. So I take 2 capsules before bed! The collagen in this is the main component found in the collagen of our skin, and combined with the other ingredients, promote collagen and tissue renewal… YES YES YES!

Fish Collagen

And Brain On. Now I can see how this would sound a lil bit cooky….it all does, all these pills and vitamins and minerals, but this particular supplement is great for focus and clarity, a balanced mood and lowering stress levels. This blend is primarily composed of blue-green algae which contains active enzymes, amino acids, phytochemicals, and essential fatty acids. Hey I’ll take anything that will keep this brain of mine young and sharp . . . short of having to consume 15 cups of coffee a day…yeesh! But so far I’ve noticed sharper focus, I work with more intention, it’s only been a few months but I love that I feel more alert and ON! It’s the same effect I get with coffee except this is caffeine free.

Brain On

And there you have it! Those are the vitamins and supplements I take daily, along with a ton of water, lots of rest, and an active lifestyle – I feel like I’m on the right path towards having a healthy mind and body. We’re all going to get older, aging is a part of life. I accept that and I look forward to aging gracefully. Gracefully being the key word here. I will supply my body with what it needs to flourish but I 100% understand that at times it could make me appear a tiny bit loopy……”why yes I take brain on and fish collagen”. It’s a bit much.

Do you take a daily vitamin? Have you ever heard of some of the other supplements I’ve talked about today? Share your daily regime with me and I’ll see you later this week!

My nighttime skin care routine

So a few posts ago, I talked about my morning skin care routine, if you missed that click here, and today I share with you my night time skin care routine. When we sleep, our skin really gets to work healing and renewing so here are some products I use to make the most out of that process! Seems like a gazillion things to do but you’ll thank me when people ask how your skin looks so glowy!

1. Spin for Perfect Skin – exfoliating brush here: I make the most out of my cleanser and ramp up my exfoliation with this guy. Skin looks dull if you don’t slough off the dead cells so exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate! Vanity Planet was awesome enough to share a coupon code for $30 off plus free shipping in the US just use SPIN4JESS at check out woot!

2. Ole Henriksen exfoliating mask here: I exfoliate at least 3 times a week, at least once a week I’ll use my exfoliating brush and every other day I’ll use my exfoliating cleanser below. Once a week (usually after a few days of hosting and being on set with 394747 layers of makeup) I will use a peel off mask and this is a great mask because it exfoliates and then you rinse off or allow to dry and wipe clean with a warm wash cloth. Your skin will feel soooo smoothe!

3. Kate Somerville Exfoliating Treatment here: And this is the exfoliating cleanser I use in between the masks and exfoliating brush. It’s gentle enough to use about twice a week, it smells like kelp and leaves my skin feeling super refreshed and soft.

4. Dickinson’s witch hazel toner here: I use a toner both day and night after I’ve cleansed my skin. It’s soothing, it removes any residual dirt and oils, and preps my skin for serums and lotions wahooo!

5. Mario Badescu skin care peptide renewal serum here: If you have dry skin, aging skin, or very sun damages skin, I suggest this amazing serum. It’s a peptide serum, super rich yet easily absorbed, it’s soooo hydrating and my skin literally looks plumper and dewy when I wake up in the morning! Just two drops at night and they won’t believe how old you are.

6. DHC Olive virgin oil here: I’ve talked about this product a lot but I can’t help it, it’s incredible. I put just a drop on a clean mascara wand and then give my lashes a good swipe of it and boom, conditioning and nourishing your lashes so they get longer. And thicker! NATURALLY! omg I know!

7. Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Intensive Eye Cream here: They holy grail of all eye creams, it’s rich and moisturizing, has anti aging ingredients in it (can I get an Amen!), and if you’re over the age of 20 I think you should be using an eye cream of some kind. The skin around our eyes is the thinnest of all of our face so we age there the quickest! I personally love this eye cream because frankly I’m no spring chicken and this does the trick!

8. Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic invigorating night gel and sheer transformation cream here: Lastly, on days where I just use a gentle cleanser with my exfoliating brush, I’ll use this killer combo after. PTR is magical in of itself, but these two work in combination to hydrate, replenish, and rebuild your skin from the inside out. No literally, from like 5 layers deep! haha

Ok so I know that’s a lot. But I do just a few different steps each night, alternating between the exfoliating brush, the peel off mask, and a gentle daily exfoliant. It’s all about the serums and moisturizers and ALL about the eye cream.

I spend 3 to 4 minutes doing this nightly routine but I promise it’s worth it and I’m raising a 16 year old. I’m sharing my secrets with the world 😉

Let me know if you try any of these things out, I always love hearing about what other people use and trying them out myself. Thank goodness for now……Asian don’t raisin 😉 And if you’d like to see me talk about all of this on my YouTube channel, here it is 😀 Disclaimer: I talk. A lot.

Stay young at heart my friends,

Jess
