We all have our everyday essentials that live in our bags, we can’t leave the house without em, and they’re essential to any and every dilemma. For me, my makeup must-haves that can undoubtedly be found at the bottom of my bag are: LIPSTICK (as always), perfume, and blush.

The new school year is almost here and whether your child is starting a new year at middle school, high school, or college, every parent knows that the most fun part about prepping for a new year … is the shopping!
I remember when I was younger, my siblings and I would nag and beg our parents to take us school shopping because we just couldn’t wait to get new clothes, new shoes, and new supplies! It was the most exciting part about it all! We loved organizing our pencil cases and putting paper and folders into our new binders, and my sister and I especially loved picking out our outfits for the first day of school!
Corrine’s style is much different from mine at her age. I remember color coordinating purple and pink leg warmers to match my purple skirt and pink teeshirt! It was the style of the ’90s and I was all about that side pony tail … and in my defense, the side pony was the modern look of the times! Corrine is much more fashionable than I; she loves creating looks that fit her personality and that speak to the vintage side of her.
This year, her style was influenced by the ’70s and the ’70s modern revival that we’re seeing trend around, which inspired her to create this year’s theme. Since Sears is a great destination for sophisticated and stylish clothing, off we went!
This year’s theme is representative of Corrine’s love of vintage fashion, and she paired each look with some modern pieces to make them her own. We can thank Bongo Girls and Canyon River Blues for this look, featuring these high-waisted shorts, a simple tee, and this crochet fringe cardigan. She paired this ensemble with these black ankle booties and a bolo tie. (The booties are so versitile and you’ll see them again soon!)
The shorts in particular gave this outfit a ’70s revival feel; high waisted with a V-knotched zipper, Corrine loved how simple and classic this was. The “pardon moi” tee has short sleeves and keeps the aesthetic simple with its muted burgundy lettering. She reminded me that this cardigan is perfect for cold classroom temperatures, and that comfort is everything when choosing campus walking shoes.
Keeping with the ’70s theme for this second ensemble, Corrine paired these black Bongo Girls skinny jeans with this white, loose-fit peplum blouse. She brought back the black booties since they pair so easily with everything, and topped the look off with a very simple yet edgy choice for an accessory. She tied a black-and-white bandana around her neck instead of opting for a simple necklace, and added a few stacked rings to fit this relaxed theme.
Corrine jumped for joy over these pieces, and I jumped for joy since we paid under $100 for both of these outfits! What made me most happy was how excited she was to put these looks together! They represent her funky and relaxed personality, and she has a special way of adding her own personal edge to everything she wears. Proud mama over here!

Schmidt’s Lavender + Sage Deodorant
I can faithfully declare that this is one of the few natural deodorants that actually work to successfully keep body odor at bay — and trust me, that’s saying a lot. I have conducted extensive research on effective natural deodorants, so I am pretty much a wiz at this stuff. Also a plus: It smells like fresh fields of lavender and is a perfect blend of both sage and lavender. The result? Magic. This is like wearing magic instead of deodorant. However, it is not an antiperspirant by any means which is the only downside. Fortunately it makes up for what it’s lacking in, in more ways than one. Schmidt’s is vegan, paraben-free, phthalate-free and cruelty free! Totally worth it if you ask me.
Acure Calming Lavender Body Lotion
It is important to note that keeping the skin hydrated in the summer is just as important as it is in winter! Seriously! Maintaining soft, healthy and moisturized skin is an extremely important thing for me considering I’ve been haunted by eczema since birth. Naturally, I was sent on an extensive search for an eco-friendly body lotion that smells good, calms my skin and keeps it real with natural ingredients. The formula is smooth and creamy, offering deep hydration all while rejuvenating dry skin and keeping the skin effortlessly aglow.
Weleda Skin Food
I love the way this smells and leaves my skin deeply moisturized and protected. My hands have a mind of their own and tend to get dry and rough whenever they feel like it. Use this on any dry area for deep moisture and antiseptic properties that calm irritation.
Acure Argan Cleansing Makeup Wipes
If you’re like me and at the end of the day think taking off makeup is too much of a hassle, then we’ve found our match. These wipes are gems because they are 100% biodegradable, vegan, sulfate free, paraben free, gluten free, cruelty free, and guaranteed not to clog your pores. I know, it’s a lot to absorb. They’re unscented so if you’re one of those that are sensitive to scents, look no further. Use them on your face and/or body to gently remove makeup, dirt, oil, glitter — whatever you need, they got your back. The argan oil infused in them are great for moisturizing skin and even hair. Nature’s products are all purpose!
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Handsoap
Lastly, we have a hand soap that is absolute perfection, I don’t even know how they do it. Technically this isn’t a beauty product, but I think it deserves some love. When I discovered this basil scented soap a few years back, it’s all I stocked my house with. It’s fresh, crisp and all around lovely. Eventually, I discovered that Meyer’s also creates candles, all purpose cleaners, laundry detergent, dish detergent and so forth out of a variety of their signature fragrances. The soap itself is paraben free and made with ingredients that are atleast 98% naturally derived, which is something I can get behind. From face to hands, it’s important to notice what you’re putting on your body!

You’re trying to take off your shoes without your feet touching the germy ground, while taking your lap top out of its case, WHILE making sure you eliminate any kind of jewelry or metal that would cause TSA to have to frisk you! Pro tip: travel as light as possible.

9. Shiseido Benefiance eye masks: whenever I travel I feel jet lagged even if it’s from LAX to SF! So I always pack eye masks so that upon my arrival to said scheduled event – I don’t look like I’ve just flown in from Egypt.
10. Caudalie hand and nail cream: whenever I travel I also feel like my skin gets SO dry. This is the perfect hand cream, it smells fresh, hydrates your hands, and conditions your cuticles. It’s always been a favorite of mine!
11. Karen Walker sunnies: love love love these! I have a thing for oversized sunglasses and these tortoise framed beauties were worth every penny! I feel so chicin them even if they’re all I have on my face – even sans the makeup!
12. Asos hand lotion in cucumber: I told you, my skin gets dry! This is my back-up go-to hand cream. Smells like a refreshing spritzer, small enough to carry in your back pocket, and won’t break the bank!
13. Canon vixia mini camera: my one and only. My most prized camera, fits in any bag, comes with me everywhere, and gets the entire room with its fish eye lens! If you’re just starting to video blog, or take any video in any capacity I highly suggest this one. It’s user-friendly, auto focus, auto everything.
14. Mpow blue tooth headphones: teeny tiny, no cords smacking you in the head, and they fold up to be a nice little hand-held accessory (perfect for the gym!).
15. Josie Maran argan oil: not only do my face and hands get dry while traveling but so does my hair! What do they put in those airplanes?! So I always carry an oil of some sort with me. I’ve recently been loving this argan oil, it’s great for your hair, skin, and nails!
And not numbered in the photo are the little trinkets that are still a part of my must have items, they’re just more commonly found. These ear plugs are everything. You can find them anywhere and they will actually allow. you. to. sleep. Hallelu!!!
Hand sanitizer is a must, especially for this germaphobe *raises both hands* so I make sure to always have with me a travel sized hand sanitizer and this one smells like a vacation.
And last but definitely not least is my lip balm. All 587 of them! Of the seven I usually carry with me, this Smith’s rose minted balm is one of my most coveted! It comes in a tube so you don’t have to stick your fingers into a tub *where are my fellow germaphobes at?* It’s silky, hydrating, and smells like a tropical breeze.
Whew! There you have it! My top 15 products, each of these things I actually carry with me in my carry on. Call me crazy or call me genius, but if you ever need a shoe shiner . . . I’m looking out!

Declotay . . . declotage . . . . decolletage – yes that word. My mother would always say to me, “Nen, don’t forget to bring your product down your decolletage!”, I would yell, “Mom, I’m 19 what does that even mean?!”. Now as my daughter graduates from High School and I realize that I’m no spring chicken, do I understand what my mother meant by that direction.
Bringing your product down your decolletage means not forgetting about your neck and cleavage area . Ok mom, you were right. I thought of this moment when I saw deep lines forming on my neck last month and had a minor freak out. By minor I mean I screeched so loudly that my daughter was startled and came running into the room expecting to find an intruder!
So if you know me than you know that I probably added a product, or FIVE to my daily routine. In this case I started using Tula’s advanced neck cream and their exfoliating treatment mask to ramp up results. So today I will share with you my review of the products and tips on how to make your products work ten times more effectively.
I’ve used firming creams before, I have dry skin and aging skin (ewww who wants to say their skin is aging?) but what I found with the Tula hydrating day and night cream was that it was hydrating without being heavy or sticky. No one wants to apply a product and be greasy and shiny all day, so I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the cream was absorbed into my skin considering how thick it appeared to be in the container. It is thick in texture, but light in consistency, which is what I also found to be true with the hydrating day and night creams. When it comes to hydrating creams you want your products to be thick but not heavy, moisturizing without remaining tacky to the touch.
If this is the first time you’re hearing me talk about Tula, a little excerpt on them – I found their skin care line last year and what drew me to the brand is their patented probiotic technology that they use to topically apply ingredients to the skin that most people have only heard of being beneficial by way of ingestion. After the first week of using the line I was hooked and have been a fan every since. So when I heard about their new products launching I was so excited to try them out, especially since they couldn’t have come at a better time. You can watch my review of the Tula collection here.
So with the advanced neck cream, I apply it to my neck and decolletage area twice a day, over my day and night creams, in an upward/outward sweeping motion (remember we’re trying to defy gravity here), paying particular attention to the lines on my neck. Using it over my day and night creams I’ve found make the product work even better with that extra nudge of hydration and aids in prepping my skin for the neck cream application.
The scent is light and clean – as are all products in the Tula line, only a dime sized amount is needed, and it’s great for all skin types. I say if you’re 25+ or a face sleeper *raises hand*, than start using a neck cream now. I use this cream daily and then at least twice a week I will use this exfoliating treatment mask.
This Tula product is a dual phase treatment, exfoliating the skin both physically and chemically using clay and lactic acid. Sounds very scientific but breaking it down in layman’s terms, it utilizes two formulas combined to create the ultimate spa experience. It looks and feels like a clay, the beads being fine in texture and hydrating in element since they contain both Vitamin E and jojoba oil (my dry skin applauds this), and can be used as often as your skin requires.
Since I have dry skin and I’ve noticed fine lines in places on my face where I didn’t notice them before, exfoliating is a staple in my skin care routine. I use the treatment mask up to three times a week. Exfoliating not only sloughs off the dead surface cells that makes my skin look dull but it also prompts the production of collagen . . . win win.
For my dry skin it removes dead skin allowing my products to work more efficiently, for aging skin it aids in collagen production, and for acne prone skin it combats acne causing bacteria. I know you’ll love this mask because what I enjoy most about it is how gentle it is. The beads are fine enough to use the mask multiple times a week but effective enough not to require daily use. I always worry when someone tells me they exfoliate daily. This product however is the best of both worlds, exfoliating while hydrating. I suggest you exfoliate starting in your teens and if you exfoliate already than you know how awesome it is for your skin’s appearance and keeping its overall balance.
Another perk of this line is that all Tula products are mineral oil free, paraben free, and never tested on animals, yayy team! If you’re in the market for a great skin care line I highly recommend all of the products in the Tula collection, speaking from experience as I’ve tried everything in the line with the exception of the illuminating face serum. I am the type of person who, when enters a drugstore heads straight for the makeup section. I start with the blushes, scanning the aisles stocked with their new, sparkly shiny array of soft pinks, burnt reds and peachy colors that will give just the right amount of health to any bare cheek. Then I move onto the mascara’s, eyeliners, deep blacks, browns and various brights that make eyes pop and come alive. And if you’re like me…your eyes light up at the sight of any lipstick section, searching for your favorite shade, that shade that you look for everytime, and happen to own about a dozen different lipsticks in. For me, this shade is a deep, rich, beautifully evil blood red. I always seek and destroy, I always know how to find it because it’s the darkest of them all, it’s at the end of the spectrum, waiting for me. That, is my reason for being at any drugstore, of course. At my recent trip to my local drugstore, I stumbled upon this sought out shade when I discovered a cosmetic brand called Milani. When I saw it my hand immediately reached for it, and naturally, it was love. The name? Black Cherry.
Black Cherry led me to gazing at the other shades Milani had to offer, and I came across a unique sort of pinky-purple, a perfect blend between the two that I had to have. It was called Matte Glam, and I knew it was great too, because I had never tried out a matte lipstick and was excited to try. So my endeavor began. As soon as I got home, I looked up Milani Cosmetics. If you weren’t aware already, I am always extremely concerned in knowing which brands are cruelty free, do not test on animals and have good morals. Whenever I buy a product I use on my face or body, I want to know if any animals were harmed in the process and if the brand uses humane techniques to form their products. So of course I was amazed and impressed to discover Milani is completely cruelty free, and some of their products are even vegan. In fact, Matte Glam is vegan. Yay!! This was a successful trip in my book.
Aren’t they glorious? The third lipstick you see probably comes off as a little mysterious, as I didn’t address it at first. It’s by a brand called Nuance, which was created by Salma Hayek. I read up on her testimonials, and absolutely fell in love with her beliefs on health + beauty and consciousness of the environment. Nuance is cruelty free. The shade of lipstick that I found myself drawn to is called My Favorite Color, and there’s even a matching nail color to go with it (uh…of course I own it). The best way to describe this color is like a sheer, rose with orangey undertones, and grants a healthy glow that only the sun could give. It’s feminine, youthful yet mature, versatile.
Award show season and New York Fashion Week are the two biggest fashion and beauty inspirations for me and I have to say, at the Oscar’s this year I had SOOO many favorites! Beyonce and JLo topped my list per the usual, so I thought I’d give you a step by step on my take on JLo’s look! So below is my tutorial and listed beneath the photo set is the method and the products I used. It’s fun to play in makeup and I hope you put your own spin on this look and TAG me! <3
1. Prep your skin and then blend out your favorite foundation, shown here is my favorite Chanel Vitalumiere. Then using L.A. Girl’s Concealer draw fun tribal-esque lines under your eyes, between your brows, down the bridge of your nose, and under your chin (to conceal & highlight)
2. After blending that out, fill in any sparse areas in your brows, I’m using Anastacia’s blonde duo kit in dark brown with a firm slanted brush
3. Using Anastacia’s contour kit in light/medium, take a slanted contour brush and contour your face (think a backwards ‘3’ from your temple to your chin, and contour your nose too)
4. Load up a medium flat brush with the color Sonic from the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette and press the color in from lash line to crease creating a wash of this burgundy-pinky color
5. Take a fluffly crease brush, load it up with the color Alchemy from the same UD palette and brush that color into your crease, sweeping it out slightly for a baby cat eye effect
6. Line your upper lash line with your favorite black pencil and smudge it out a bit with a smudge pencil brush to again enhance that baby winged look
7. Take a slanted brush, dip it into that same Alchemy color and trace just along your lower lash line (since JLo didn’t use any liner on her water line, this enhanced her eyes without making them smaller, woot!)
8. Load up a fluffy blush brush with this beautiful and bright Stila blush and sweep them across the apples of your cheeks
9. Go back into that Anastasia Contour Kit and use the Fawn color to highlight your temples and bridge of nose and then use the Banana color to set the concealer under your eyes – it’s the perfect setting powder
10. Line your lips with this awesome buildable lip liner from Clinique which best matched my Patone Universe Marsala layering in Dusty Cedar
11. Take a pinky-nude gloss like the one I’m using here from Tom Ford in Tawny Pink and layer it over your liner and walaaa!
You are a glowy pinky-rose bombshell!!! I loved this look so much! I tied my hair back in a sleek ponytail and topped off the look with a pair of signature JLo hoop earrings and ta-daaaa! I’m totally channeling her in my final pose haha. I had a lot of fun interpretting this look and I’ll be doing it again later this week with a look from Beyonce that I’m obsessed with!

Here are some snaps from my eventful day of filming.
If you didn’t know, I love art and I love making it too. I died from happiness a little when I saw this poster that said “Paint or Die”. Nice, nice, props to you friend, whoever posted this. Really though, paint or die. x______x
This whole wall was filllllled with posters and graffiti, stickers and paintings. People just pile it on, layer after layer so you can still see some paintings that were once there underneath it, too.
Also, spotted the love of my life while I was there. This beautiful Husky baby named Cash, just hanging out on his second floor window.
He was so so precious, I just wanted to give him a great big hug. Spot the tag at the right, just beneath the window? It says #HewittHusky. I googled it and yeah, he has his own twitter account. That melted my heart, I tell ya. One guy walking down the street told us the dog’s name and that he thinks he’s a mountain goat. Awwwwwww.
This day showed me a lot of adventure. it was easy to get lost and forget about myself, to float around like a ghost for a little while. I love blending into my surroundings, and I must say, this space felt like home. I see myself in this place in the future.
Wear it! With everything am I right?! <—- I should totally do stand up! So style watch… here we go, let’s do this Fall style! *Still doing that Fall evoking thing over here in L.A.* Today I’m going to show you how you can wear one pair of shoes, three different ways this season, and yes with open toe heels! I took my current favorite pair of pumps, these Calvin Klein Vivian patent snake print sandals, and styled them three different ways. And even though it’s getting cooler out, there are a ton of ways you can still get away with wearing your open toed pumps this Fall season!
Take this look out to a brunch meeting or just to a night out with the girls, I call this the ‘casual ballerina’ look.Taking casual to another level here with this JustFab Mandy jumpsuit, which is comfortable and cute with it’s zip up front (and back), and front pockets. I wore this out with my Calvin Klein’s, and even though it’s getting cooler out, the jumper and jacket keep me warm enough. These heels are 4″ leather heels with the daintiest of pronounced platforms, are covered in a sleek snake print, and have a strap that wraps around your ankle. To top the look off I wore this faux leather Easy Jacket also by JF, and to keep the whole ‘ballerina’ thing going, I did the ‘off duty ballerina’ top knot accessorized with this beautiful beaded Free People headpiece. Prance around an event in this ensemble or just around – out on your next date night, I call this the ‘sporty chic’ …. and yes I am wearing sparkly ankle socks with these heels! Open toed heels worn with socks are all the rage this coming season! Hey Beyonce did it, so we can totalllyyyy pull it off! I really like how the ankle socks add a bit of edge to the look (and keep my toesies warm), and I kept it girly with this checkered scuba skirt and lace top. If it were a bit colder out, I’d just top this look off with a nice denim jacket and bam ready to dance the night away!
And this look…. which we’ll call the ‘business girl gone bad’ ….because one, I like naming things and two, because I feel like it’s something I’d wear to the office and then run off to an event in! Also take note of this pose, it’s apparently my most favorite pose to do ever. Not sure what it is I’m doing with my arms but we’ll go with it.
So even though it’s windy out, I can still wear my heels so long as I wear these sheer floral tights….and a warm jacket. I’m a bit obsessed with printed tights these days! But for good reason! They’re just so cute with my sandals, and in this JF dress I’m feelin foxy!!! Foxy is still a thing kids say these days right? Well I was feeling foxy and fabulous! I accessorized the look with black chandelier earrings and since the dress has front slits in it I decided no necklace was neccessary. Instead, I slipped on a chunky ring and off I went!
So three fun looks, for three different occasions, styled with one pair of sexy heels. Gotta love how creative us ladies can get when the season changes! Beyond all of the recipes I can cook up that include pumpkin puree, I also love my layers. I’m telling you, Fall season tis the best season! What do you love most about the Fall? About the change in weather? P.S. I say there are no rules in fashion, wear what makes you feel confident! Unless they’re flip flops…..I would say to stay away from socks and flip flops whenever possible 😉
