Some Facts About Me

I wanted to share with you some fun facts about me, some things I’ve learned, and some things maybe you didn’t know about me. If any of this sounds familiar let me know in the comments, I love learning about all of you too <3

  1. I’m Chamorro and Irish
  2. Foot stuff bother me, let me explain: stepping into water with socks on. Equally annoying is when my sock slips off my foot deep inside my shoe..ugh Uggs. Or when the bottom of my foot itches … or stepping on a lego (which I haven’t had to do in a while but still) a lot of foot stuff apparently
  3. I play with my food. Move it around with my spoon, nibble chocolate off my candy bars before eating the actual candy bar, flatten See’s lollipops with my teeth..very weird things happen with food and I
  4. I only eat with spoons. Forks are just so annoying, all the food falls off!
  5. I hate salads. I’ll eat them but like, they have to be piled with not good stuff
  6. I was a teen mom. 16 when I had Corriney but somehow we made it out okay
  7. I THINK I want more babies. That’s a really hard one, ask me again tomorrow
  8. I’m a master at the smile mask and my coping skills include shielding, running, and screaming. Sounds like a horror film
  9. I never had animals growing up but I LOOOVE animals. We have two fur babies, Luna and Ace and I can’t live without them
  10. I spend money on skincare over anything else
  11. I live for comfort so 90% of the time I’m in sweats or athleisure attire
  12. Instagram displays only 1% of my actual life and how I feel
  13. Champagne and tequila are my drinks of choice
  14. I love country music
  15. I’m an Army brat, my dad was a Drill Sergeant for 23 years and we moved. A lot
  16. My favorite color is royal blue. And black
  17. I get eyelash extensions every 2 weeks but that’s the only beauty maintenance I have, contrary to people thinking I’ve ever gotten my lips done or face filled, I have not. If I ever do you’ll be the first to know I’m an open book about those things
  18. I got breast augmentation almost 13 years ago. For me, myself, and I. I nursed Corrine at age 16 for 10 months so having saggy boobs at 18 was no fun for me personally. I love them now
  19. I’ve only ever cut 3 people out of my life. 2 exes and a friend. It takes a lot for me to not want to be around you, if I stop talking to you it’s because you’re toxic
  20. I have a lot of friend groups but very few close friends that I see and talk to regularly. It took me a minute to realize that your friend circles are ever changing, seasons change and people change. It’s okay, it’s quality or quantity. It’s not time that we’re limited on, time is infinite. It’s our energy we must protect- who we give it to, what we spend it on, where we place it. Our energy is limited and we have to guard it. I read that somewhere and it really landed on me. If you know where please let me know so I can credit them. I used to give my energy to everyone and all of it. I learned
  21. I’m not a needy friend or partner, but when I need your attention I need it now. I’m not patient just ask Joe
  22. I’m pretty independent but I also feel my best when I’m around others. And I love to make people laugh
  23. I live for helping others, I can be captain save-a-ho at times so I’ve had to learn when someone just needs a lil boosting and when someone has to save themselves, but I love being a good friend and I really try to be
  24. Fitness has become such a wonderful part of my daily life that I look forward to empowering other women because they’re all so damn strong inside and out
  25. I love to cook but I really LOVE to bake
  26. I did a lot of drugs when I was younger and I’m happy that I can be open and honest about those things when Corrine comes to me with questions
  27. When I was younger we had a pet pig named Pepper, he ran away and bit a horse and was never heard from again
  28. I’m a control freak and I’m working on that, remember that whole energy thing? Well I try not to give my energy away to things out of my control
  29. I’m boarder line hoarder status over here with all these clothes and makeup products. I need Marie Kondo
  30. Joe is the love of my life. He’s also working beside me and I want to squeeze his face but I’ll let him work
  31. I’m most proud to be Corrine’s mom. She and I have really been through some shit together and she’s grown into the most grounded, genuine, loving, and most wonderful young lady and I’m beyond honored to be her mama
  32. She and I have definitely slept in our car before. Ah yes, those days sucked
  33. I fed Corrine fast food (what’s up dollar menu) for almost a year because it was all I could afford one year when she was little and I ran from a repo company for almost a year during that time too. Talk about stressful
  34. I’ve learned that abusive relationships don’t start abusive. At least it didn’t for me, it started with a shove and some name calling. I’d like to talk about that more with you some day
  35. I’ve experienced that being a parent requires you to be selfless and when put in certain circumstances you’ll ensure their happiness and safety above your own and that will drive you. My love for Corrine has made me the most powerful tool when it comes to making sure she’s safe and happy
  36. No one is perfect, doesn’t that just sound boring?
  37. I’m still learning every day and damn I need to read more

That’s all I’ve got for now, thank you for following along in all that, it felt therapeutic! I enjoy sharing with you but I also really love learning about each of you so tell me some fun facts about yourself or some lessons you’ve learned <3

For The Fitness Babe

The grand finale. I saved my last gift guide of this holiday season for one of my most dearest … this is for the fitness babe.

You badass, strong, fierce, resilient, beautiful humans inspire me every day and this list is after my own heart. You fit foxes, if your friends are fellow health/wellness lovers this is for them too. To choose from everything I use daily and narrow them down to my top six choices to share with you was really difficult, but there’s a reason I chose each of them. So here we go.

Alo Yoga Stow Backpack • This backpack is perfect for all my yogis out there, it has bungee straps at the bottom to hold your yoga mat! Hands free baby! It’s also water resistant and features a laptop sleeve because you’re a boss babe on the move! I personally love the padded back because ‘shweatttty’, and it comes with a small pouch that hooks to the interior so you don’t have to go fishing around for your lip balm or keys… all the littles easily get stowed in the pouch that you can easily locate by feeling for the clip, yaaaas! #clawhand #ilizashlesinger P.S. I think this also makes for a really awesome diaper bag for you active mamas <3

Fre Skincare • Created for skin that sweats! That me! That’s you! Eeeek! I’ve been using Fre since last year and it’s the ONLY skincare product that won’t break me out if I apply it before my sweat sesh. I stand behind this one. It doesn’t burn when you sweat your face off (and all of your skincare) into your eyeballs, the sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast on your skin, and the serum is like buttah. You get 25% off your order with the code JESSLIZAMA so I hope you give it a try and if you don’t love it you can return it. Love that policy.

Amethyst Gem Glass Bottle • Placing a beautiful gem with a meaningful message inside of a glass bottle that’s also eco friendly… they had me at hello. The crystal infuses the water with its powerful energy and I’m here for it. They have different crystals to choose from so lean into your woo woo and tell your friends to too! Woohooo!

Bootayyyy Bands • Biti Bands and Training Guide with Rebecca! This one I’m especially excited to share with you because I’ve known Rebecca for a few years now and she’s a genuine person who’s created a genuine brand. I love supporting my friends and I’d love it if you supported her too! Check out her Biti Band guide, one of the options comes WITH the bands! She’s a walking billboard for her program, goals Rebecca, just goals! Swoon. Check her out and get your booty lifted ¶ and shifted ¶ higher than the ceiling ¶

SPANX Faux Leather Moto Leggings • Also for the booty! I love these leggings, I purchased 2 more pairs for myself during cyber week. They’re ultra comfortable, the compression doesn’t make you feel like you’re a muffin, and they’re squat proof! I tested them during our last Lacey Stone Fitness bootcamp and they’ll keep your bits protected don’t you worry. They also transition from bootcamp to brunch really easily with their chic, stylish design. Throw on a clean top, a top knot, and some sunnies and you’re ready to go!

APL Training Shoes • I mean, they’re rose gold! Well they come in rose gold which is my all time favorite color. I love that they’re exceptionally comfortable (even for my wide feet), breathable, and they’re designed to strategically to support your movements. She needs these. You need these. We all scream for ice cream. *sorry I just blacked out

And that’s all she wrote! I hope you’ve had fun scrolling through each of my gift guides, I truly enjoy putting these together for you and sharing with you the things I own or want need to own. Now that I have all of the gifting out of my system what shall we talk about next?

Did I miss anything? Was there something you would’ve loved to have seen on these lists? Share them with me! Happy holidays and safe travels babes <3

What I Eat In A Day

I’m not sure what my current obsession with what everyone’s eating these days is all about, but it’s freaking me out. I genuinely am so curious about what everyone’s eating in a day, how much, what foods, how do they prepare it, what do they consider ‘clean’ eating? I hate the phrase ‘clean eating’ because it can be so confusing to me. Like 80 avocados and 17 bananas in a day, I wouldn’t do it, but to someone somewhere, THAT is clean eating and they don’t understand why they’re having digestive issues. Am I climbing the crazy tree alone here?

So I thought in the interest of keeping up with a trend that has piqued my interest, I’d share with you what I eat in a day. This is what I’m eating this week and the kind of meals I consumed last week as I’m in a Lacey Stone Fitness bootcamp, the last two week camp of the year and I’m all IN! You’ll notice I didn’t mention how many calories I have in a day because honestly it doesn’t matter. My caloric intake and my fitness goals are going to be different from everyone else’s so I thought I’d spare you the drama of explaining my daily breakdown of it all and just show you the food, when I’m eating it, and how I’m eating it…. the answer is with my fingers!

Here’s the video of my day <3

You’ll also notice I’m using My Fitness Pal (not spon, ha must disclose this just because) because I’m tired of ‘guesstimating’ what my eating habits are doing for me. How many calories am I consuming in a day? Where are my nutrients coming from? How many grams of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs am I having? WHERE IS IT ALL COMING FROM?! I had no idea, so I downloaded the dang app and decided that for two weeks I’d track my meals and give myself a more accurate layout of what I’m doing that’s both good and bad for me.

I personally love meal prep because of the convenience. And the fact that it saves me time and money. We did the math and for us 6 ladies to meal prep 4 meals a day for 5 days, it cost us $79 each…for the week! Whoa, hey babyyy yes count me in! On days like yesterday and today where I’m cleaning the house or plowing through a day of work and to-do’s it really does help me to just heat the meal up and move on with my life. My hand is raised right now because I’ve become that person who sets an alarm to eat every 3 hours or so. Honestly, I do it because I forget, or I get too busy that I’ll munch on a snack aka a sugary treat and then by the end of the day I’ve gone the entire day without eating real food. So this helps!

So it goes down like this: after a fasted workout I’ll have my breakfast, then lunch, then a midday snack, then dinner. Four meals a day, either over 12 hours (8-8) or over the entire day depending on travel and my intermittent fasting streaks.

Breakfast: Egg white frittatas, fruit, coffee

Lunch: Lean protein, complex carb, healthy fat (this is every meal actually) and on this day I had a turkey burger with a Portabella mushroom open faced ‘bun’, some grilled veggies, salsa, and sweet potato fries

Midday snack: Veggies with hummus (I did zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers)

Dinner: Lentils with brown rice, hummus and a spinach salad (I used the spinach leaves like a tortilla and wrapped the hummus in the leaves like a lil baby taco!)

*Also featured as another meal option to have is another meal we prepped, bbq pulled chicken with grilled veggies, corn and black beans, with sweet potato cubes (they had cinnamon on them omgawww noms!) Also not featured, the healthy snacks I’ll munch on throughout the day if I’m ravenous and don’t want to eat my arm off.

And that’s what I had for the day. It may not sound exciting but honestly it was delicious and super nutritious, and I feel so energetic and good already just after this last week of eating this way. The bloat has gone away and I feel like my peppy self.

Have you meal prepped? Do you love it? Have recipes to share? Would you like the recipes for the meals I had today?

My Morning Routine

Morning routines: we all have one, or SEVEN depending on the day. Days that I’m not doing a work out or going for a run (ha, a run!) I consider my rest days because I’m in this stage of my life where I’m either working out or resting…say hello to my 30’s, work vs rest. So on this particular day of ‘resting’ where I’m editing videos and blogging from my couch in my pj’s from the night before, I wanted to share with you what this kind of morning routine looks like.

I picked up my camera, just moments after putting in contacts, brushing my teeth, and tidying up the place to showcase all of the different things I’ve been implementing into my daily morning routine. And when I say I casually picked up the camera to film a candid ‘morning routine’ with you, I mean c-a-n-d-i-d, girl is looking rough! Honestly, it’s fine, some sleep in the eye and makeup from the night before isn’t new to anyone so love me tender.

Here it is in all its glory <3

As you’ll see, I’ve been intermittent fasting lately and 14 hours is my breaking point before I go all out hangry on a stranger so it ends there. And the first thing I try and break my fast with is a collagen drink or bulletproof coffee, depending on the day, then I do a workout or work, have my supplements, and go about my day. Here’e the goods I talked about in the video:

I’ll save this whole intermittent fasting topic and meal prep subject for another day. In the mean time, check these goodies out and if you’re looking for an awesome daily vitamin that you won’t have to fuss over, give Ritual Vitamins a try <3

What’s something that’s a part of our morning routine that has been a game changer? It’s vitamins for me!

Find Your Skincare Routine

If you asked my husband to assess the product situation happening on my vanity he’d tell you I’m borderline a hoarder LOL Between makeup and beauty products, I’m not ashamed to admit that my life’s become a Netflix series episode.  Honestly, I think we all have, I mean there’s just SO many options out there!
I started this blog 4 years ago to share with you any tips, tricks, and advice that I myself would love to hear about.  So today I’m sharing with you a brand I’ve been using for the past month, Beauty By Design, what makes them unique, and how their service will help you to slash the stash!
The way their service works is you send them a selfie and skin survey, then they connect you to a Licensed Esthetician (!) via text.  She diagnoses your skin and sends you a ‘skinscription’ where listed is all of the ‘game-changer’ products that she suggests just for YOU- and you can choose what to purchase.
I purchased four products that I’ve implemented into my daily skincare routine and have genuinely noticed a difference in my skin’s texture and hydration level.  The best part… I can now text her anytime for advice… pssst hey Hilary, I promise not to call you at 3am and heavy breathe lol

Enjoy this Get Ready With Me video featuring the 4 Beauty By Design products that I purchased <3

Try their service for yourself, I’d love to get your feedback, and PS they offer free shipping on all orders! Click HERE to shop the site and use my code JESSICALIZAMA20 to receive 20% off your order because friends don’t let friends product hoard. #slashthestash <—- I’m coining this term lol
What’s your skincare routine look like? Wouldn’t you love to just eliminate the guestimating of it all and have a professional help you out? Do ittttt <3

Lash lift vs eye lash extensions with Iris+West!

Going for that doe-eyed, bat worthy, voluminous kind of look? Well if you’ve ever debated whether to enhance your lashes with eye lash extensions or elevate them in a more natural way, this article is for you!

I’ve personally been getting eye lash extensions since my wedding last year and I can’t imagine not ‘waking up looking like this’ with bright eyes and curly lashes. It all begins with your lash technician… trusting they have the experience to choose your lash integrity over the trends. I trust my babes over at Iris + West and had the honor of having Corrine introduced to the world of luscious lashes through their lash lift service!

I chose eye lash extensions even though my natural lashes are long and straight because I was tired of always having to curl them throughout the day and wear 18 coats of mascara just to make them visible. Corrine’s lash profile is much like mine, however the upkeep for extensions would be too much for her to invest in. To say she was so excited to learn that Iris + West now offer a lash lift and tint treatment is an understatement! Here you’ll see the step by step process that goes into this kind of service. This is perfect for those of you who have awesome natural lashes but need just a little bit of oomph to make them pop, without having to curl them and apply mascara. For my fellow lash extension babes, who are addicted to volume and curl, have no fear- this could be a wonderful transition for you when you decide to go back to your natural lashes.

Lets go over what the process looks like. The entire treatment takes around 90 minutes and then you’re left with low maintenance beautiful NATURAL lashes. Lash lifts will curl and darken your natural lashes and this effect will last around 8 weeks.

1) An under-eye pad is placed over the bottom lashes to hold them out of the way

2) Using a water based adhesive, curling rods are attached to each eye (the sizes vary depending on what type of curl is is desired)

3) Lashes are attached to the curling rod with a water based adhesive – lashes are then distributed evenly on the rod so that when the treatment is complete, the natural lashes are uniform
4) A curling solution is applied to the base of the lashes

5) A tint is applied to the lashes to darken them and make even the babiest of baby lashes really pop!

6) The curling solution is then removed and finally a setting solution is placed at the base of the lashes to create the perfectly curled lashes!

Wala! Just like that you’re lashes are just how you remembered them, but better! This service costs a fraction of the price in terms of up-keep and in the long run will save you time and energy, on both makeup application and maintenance.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to do your research when it comes to choosing the right lash technician whether that be for eye lash extensions or a lash lift. If you’re in the LA area check out my tried and trusted team of awesome ladies over at Iris + West! Tell them I sent you and you’ll receive $10 off your lash lift! It’s just so nice to know there are options available for every schedule and budget.

Have you heard of a lash lift and tint before? Have you ever considered having it done? How do you feel about transitioning over from lash extensions to a lash lift on your natural lashes?

SPRUCING UP YOUR HOME FOR SPRINGTIME – ON A DIME!!!

SPRUCING UP YOUR HOME FOR SPRINGTIME – You’d be so proud! I’ve been a DIY queen over here because DIY-not am I right?! Ahem, that is in reference to my series on YouTube where I take a Pinterest idea and do it my way. ‘My way’ usually means that things end up pretty janky, yet surprisingly fun and functional! This week has been all about revamping my space, from my bedroom to my kitchen and the spaces in between. I gave myself a $200 budget, put Pinterest on repeat, and behold, here is the magic that was created!

I combined my favorite color schemes to refresh my bedroom, my vanity area, my kitchen, and my dining room table. I kind of sprinkled pops of color around each nook of mine and put lights on just about anything I could get my hands on! Pastels, yellows, blues, pinks, oranges, you name it, it’s here! And guess what?! I also built a headboard WITH MY OWN HANDS. Yes slightly burned with hot glue hands, but with these bare hands of mine nonetheless! If I can do it, trust me, anyone can! So here’s the sitch …

MY VANITY

I’ve always wanted a space in my bedroom that I could get ready at, film at, and decorate in a way that made me feel organized … ya know, like a real adult! Since I’m borderline hoarder-status over here, my vanity up until this point has always been covered with product and spritzes and sprays, and I never really got a chance to use it. I kind of just sat on the floor NEXT to my vanity and got ready each day. Joe got this set for me a few years ago and I’m happy to say that it is finally being used for all its intended purposes!

Organized chaos, that’s what this is! I kind of sectioned out all of my foundations, liners, perfumes, and palettes. I love this place mat that I got from Marshalls because it’s bright and colorful and fits in perfectly with the rest of my color scheme. If you haven’t noticed, I’m all about that bright, poppy, happy kind of feel!

So in  a fit of creativity I ran out to TJ Maxx and picked up the double sided area rug, 2 makeup trays, a 3-tiered shelf organizer, and the hanging jewelry display. Marshall’s, just down the street is my go-to for accessories! The candle, photo frame, and planter were all on sale for less than $7 each! Also, IKEA is pretty great for DIY home projects, and from there I purchased the chair, pillow, blanket, shelf, and white planter. I thought the planter was so pretty with it’s lace detail that I used it as a makeup brush holder and filled the inside with beads to hold my brushes in place. You can get the shelf and lights at IKEA or even at Home Depot depending on your location.

MY BED

Why yes, this IS a homemade headboard put together by yours truly! I watched YouTube OF COURSE and made this headboard from two poster boards … a BUTT LOAD of tape and all of my hot glue! You can check out the video I followed for this headboard here! I doubled the stuffing to really give the buttons that ‘pierced’ look. From $500 to $50, this headboard is the way to go! The fairy lights I got from Amazon and the pillows came from both World Market and Marshalls. Any chance I get to add color or lights, I’m all over it! Also, thank you Corrine for letting me steal your foliage, it really completed my whole ‘bo-ho’ theme!

MY KITCHEN

Moving out of the bedroom and in to my kitchen, this space was my favorite to spice up! Yo check out my play on words! *I think I’m so funny sometimes! I hope we’re still friends* Everything here was on sale at Michael’s, 40% off to be exact, and the candles, tea pot, and mason jars were also on sale, at World Market. It’s incredible the things you can find when you sift. Head to the back, it’s the last place people will rummage!

Some paper straws from the Dollar Store, placements of color from one end to the other, and you have a kitchen that’s ready for company! I love hosting dinners and cooking for Corrine’s friends and my kitchen is completely ready now!

There’s something about these bright colors and pastel combinations that make me so so happy. I’m a complete product of my environment and if I’m having a bad day you’ll know it, black is my favorite color but not for home decor. It feels bigger in my kitchen some how, brighter, and more inviting.

If you’re really into DIY, you could probably make this sectioned shelf and paint it whatever color you like. I really loved this distressed vintage blue color and Corrine helped me pick out the tiny arrangements for it. I think with each season I will switch up the items that it holds, and paint it a chalky white so that it’s universal no matter what theme I choose.

MY DINING ROOM TABLE

Last but not least, our dining room table. I have a video and blog post coming soon where I paint this wooden table a white-chalk and distress it with sandpaper and tape. Until then, I decided I wanted a pastel pink runner and I couldn’t pass on these air plants from Trader Joe’s. They were only $2.99 each and I was told that I CAN’T kill these, no matter what! Water them once every two weeks, I think I can handle that!

Sunflowers make me smile and this tray from Marshalls was a nice separation from the plants and the table runner. See how I came full circle with the pastels and color combinations again? … Poor Joe, he gets a corner. ONE corner. Haha!

I’ve never been great at interior design, it takes time and money. It also takes patience and knowing what you want and where to get them without breaking the bank, home improvements can be costly and we’re saving for a wedding over here! Besides the excitement over Spring and all things color pop, a driving force behind all of these modifications was that I didn’t feel confident about my space.

I love hosting parties but when you aren’t happy with how things look it detours you from inviting people in. At least for me. See, I like everything, and I love color and I love print, so we really didn’t have a cohesive theme in our apartment and I was okay with that. Until Pinterest happened! Then I got all motivated to do our ‘Pinterest DIY-not’ series and it pushed me to try some DIY projects for myself to see how expensive or inexpensive these kinds of ventures would be.

I’m happy to say that you can take on these tasks and complete them in an affordable way. If you set a budget for yourself you can do just about anything within those boarders. What once gave me grief and seemed to be an eye sore I am now most proud of. I kind of just sit back these days and stare at each room the way a five year old stares at a bouncy house … with excitement and awe. Sounds crazy because it’s just an addition of color here or an accessory there, but for me, I’m so proud of these changes and this kind of thing is necessary. It makes me feel so refreshed.

Do you have any particular plans for your home and this next season? What are your favorite color schemes and where are your go-to places to find the things you create with?

I love updating our areas surrounding the different seasons of the year and I can’t wait to show you what I have in mind for Summer! Thank you for indulging my DIY side and all things bright, blinding, and beautiful!

My Morning Workout Skincare Routine!

I don’t usually do much before a workout besides skincare, prep for the day, and pack my meals. I also know though that ‘sweaty selfie or it didn’t happen’ is a thing so this is for you out there that wants a 2 minute skincare routine (that actually works) and a lil juj-ing so you don’t look like Shrek. Hey no judgements here, I’ve been known to fluff the hair if I know a photo is involved, no shame! This is fast, fun, and effective haha *que 80’s aerobics music and the Flashdance final scene … umm the only scene that matters imo*

It’s just a little something extra, emphasis on LITTLE … we don’t want to melt our faces off at the gym and come out looking like a raccoon 😀

FRE is a skincare system that was especially formulated for skin that sweats! Ummm yassss helloooo thank youuu this is for meeee! And you!

Enjoy this video (excuse me if it’s out of focus… this is what happens when you’re a one woman team lols sad face lols) where I cleanse, serum, hydrate and protect, and then add that LITTLE bit of juj-ing we talked about earlier 😉

My friends at FRE were so kind to give my readers 30% off your first set, just use the code JESSLIZAMA at checkout baby! Let me know what you think of it when you try it for a few weeks, I stand behind the fact that your skin will glow and not burn when you sweat into your eyeballs.

Lastly, since we’re on the topic, I’d love to share with you one of my favorite fitness blogs because of their “Top 5” articles! You can find it all- from workouts and fueling your body properly, to vitamins and supplements to fuel you from the inside out! Check them out and let me know which post you love best! …. psst I really love supplement talk so!
Have you heard of FRE before? Are you a simple morning lady or an eff it give me a full face of makeup kinda gal?
